One thing still confuses me. Stock coils and Bilsteins set at 2.5 prestresses the spring because the shock is longer than the spring, therefore extending it. Then you get a longer eibach spring, why would you reduce the the shock? If the sprng is longer than the shock, isnt this going to prestress the shock. I would think you would want them to be as close to the same length as possible.

Didn't take the time to read through all of the threads but... I bought the Toytec Ultimate lift for about $1,350 (With Bilstein 5100's all around and Eibach coilovers for the front) shipped. Installed the coilovers at stock height and the AAL's without a problem. Noticable ride difference but no problems since i've thrown them on :)

I still don't see the big deal about top mount spacers. Someone want to clarify how the Bilsteins are better since they are preloading the springs and the top mount spacers are not? Obvously, the 5100's are simply better shocks PERIOD compared to what is on my truck but I simply don't see how they are better in regard to a lift (this is what I'm referring to: http://store.fatbobsgarage.com/_toy...ear-add-a-leafs-4wd2wd-2005---2011-p2133.aspx).

I am currently debating what to do re: a small lift, but haven't made a decision. In the back of my mind, I know I'm going to end up with the 5100's up front and a 1.5" AAL in the rear. I will be towing a bit more soon so there's simply no question that I need an AAL since the turds at SPARKS TOYOTA would NOT do the TSB even after dealing with Toyota corporate.

Anyhow, I didn't want to start another thread but thanks for any responses.

When I was sorting out my lift options - I couldn't sleep. All I could think about was suspension options. It's a sickness, I tell you.

Top mount spacers allow the CV axle and ball joint to drop considerably lower than the maximum stock position, putting the CV axle and differential bearing at risk for damage.

Top mount spacers also change the position of maximum shock compression, without corresponding change to the bump stop position. So you'll bottom out your shocks and springs, rather than hit your bumpstops.

For both of these reasons, top mount spacers are considered to increase the chance of truck damage when the truck is wheeled aggressively.

EDIT - go to the Bilstein 5100 information website, and they have pictures explaining this.

The bilstein 5100 moves the spring perch - in effect lengthening the portion of the strut BELOW the spring, while keeping the spring its own loaded length (remember, the length of the spring is determined by the weight of the truck, not the spring perch position!!) So if you run it with an extended spring perch position AND a longer spring, you're extending the strut well past its design length - in effect creating a 4 to 6" strut-only suspension lift. The CV axles and upper and lower control arms can't take this much of an increase without drastically increasing the chance of damage. Not to mention rough ride.

x2. I think it takes longer to get to sleep some nights because of truck mods going through my head.
