TRD Sport over TRD Off-road?

Anyone thinking off getting a TRD Sport over the TRD Off-road? In the last generation, the sport model looks "slightly" better because of the non-functional hood scoop. However, the Gen 4 TRD Sport looks "significantly" better than the TRD Off-road (subjective).

Here are some pictures below. Apologies if you cannot post links to another forum. Not sure what the rules are. Because of the added air vent on fender, not having color matching fender on the TRD-Off-road looks really cheap (except in Oxide Bronze as shown below). In addition, I do think the sport wheels look better than the OR wheels. Thoughts?

Off road all day for me, like always. Never liked the scoop. And for me locker > LSD.

Looks will matter less after a few years. TRD is more capable immediately, without modifications. Though if you like the scoop you can modify as much as you like for off-road.

I'm only interested in the XtraCab. DC isn't out of the question most likely an SR probably still has an electric seat. I just prefer less amenities on a truck. I wouldn't mind having a rear locker, but I'm not buying a new Tacoma to take it off roading. That's if I ever buy a 4th gen.

Can't you just install a rear air locker later on? I guess the only thing missing is ATRAC (manual) and MTS and Crawl (automatic).

FWIW ... I consider sliders, skids, UCA/LCA, shocks, tires to be add-ons. If there is a chance "locker for off-roading" will be wanted, buy it now. Crawl is both unsettling (like 10 lbs of assorted nuts and bolts dropped into the transmission) and useful of tricky/steep trails.

Yes, the non-color matched flares looks terrible on this body. I’m not sure why they kept that with such squared off and blocky wheel wells.

The glossy black fender on the TRD Pro looks better on a Solar Octane Off-Road than a matte gray fender.

Also, I wonder if they are going to make the badging bigger on the 2025 model? Right now, it looks like it was tacked on.

Also subjective. Obviously no offense to those who dig the skewp, after all, my dumbass opinion doesn't mean anything but honestly, and this is just my opinion, the hood skewp is goofy. Mainly because it literally serves no purpose but also because it just looks corny to me. Maybe it's because I know it serves no functional purpose that I find it goofy looking, I dunno. I'm also not a fan of color matched fender flares...in either Gen.

I'm all for aesthetic but I find function to be more important when I'm purchasing a vehicle.

If I was going to pay to install an aftermarket locker I’d just buy the SR5.

Aesthetics have their limits. Pretty for me is for showcars, mostly. I purchased the Tacoma to reach places in Arizona that are reached by "Primitive Roads -- Drive at Your Own Risk". Hood scoops just collect dust on those roads, they do not get me up/down questionable roads.

    But to each his/her own.

Some like paint-matched overfenders; some like the contrast of black overfenders. Some like the look of the hood scoop; some think its goofy. Same applies to different wheel patterns. These are all just styling cues and a matter of personal preference. Mechanically, the OR offers more, and provided the most bang for the buck in the 3rd gen. Are the rear diffs going to be the same on the OR and Sport for the '24 models?

I got the Sport because that’s what comes with a manual transmission in Canada.

Fake hood skewp is wack - the flat hood is cleaner, IMO. Won’t buy either since SR now comes with manual (assuming it’s actually significantly less $ and not just a couple grand less than the OR)

The TRD Sport and TRD Off Road cater to two very different sets of folks; for those like me where the definition of "Off Road" is rolling across the lawn with a load of mulch, the Sport is by far the better option; for folks who love to leave the paved environs and crawl through rocks and mud, the Off Road is by far the better option.

Don’t forget the biggest group of all: those who carry mulch but want their neighbors & coworkers to believe that they’re actually rock crawling. The Off Road (or Pro) is for you.
