I don’t mean to beat a dead horse.
I’m new here but not to Toyota although this is my first tacoma.
Can anyone please tell me what this noise is . I’ve seen so many different answers.

For some reason I cannot get a video on here . I’d like to be able to.

First off these vehicles are not well insulated for sound. I am learning a lot about them being a first time Taco owner... my first Toyota was a 2021 Highlander Limited (very broad difference between ride and road noise).

Now, learning more... you tube has become my entertainment. This video is a good run down and MIGHT answer your question(s). The long/short the engine is engineered to "self clean" and can the self clean sounds like "dieseling". There are many that also report AC howl/whistle flute like noise... turn AC off where noise starts to see if stops.

Without much description of sound or approximate location... there is not much but assumption to go off of. I saw you said video did not upload (perhaps post to you tube and link it). Hope this link helps with his overall review...

Yes the injection cleaning takes place at idle and sounds like a diesel engine!

Check out the sound in post #1. If that is what you hear, it is the injector cleaning cycle.

Looking at the engine from the front of the truck it is loudest at the back of the passenger cylinder head by the firewall
