got continentals installed the other day and they used a shitload of wheel weights on all the wheels and one of my hubcaps fell off on my way home. not happy with them. going to another shop tomorrow to get them balanced properly.

Michelin's are all I ever used until 5 years ago when that brand started wearing out a lot faster then normal, now I run Falken and they have been excellent tires for half the cost of Michelin's.

Funny how people are happily buying Falkens like they are something new. Falken is a relabeled Dunlop. Dunlop was not known for quality, but good for the price. Falken is no different. I'm curious what tires you got that were half the price of another tire.

Why are you so angry about tires?

Sorry if you mistake my direct approach. No anger here. I know in this sensitive world that doesn't favor as such; I am often misunderstood.

I agree I think Michelin has gone to shits. When I get these new tires in and they still have a balance issue then I will go back to the original Firestone DestinationL2 as they were great and Michelin can shove their LTX up their arses just saying
    I understand you

I still bet it's a balance issue, not a tire issue.

Sounds like the installer, I doubt it's the tire. I agree Michelin is not the quality it use to be, and neither is BFG as Michelin owns BFG. I say Toyota as I have had several sets now on all my Toyotas but ran bfgs and Michelin for years on my old suburbans. I found discount tire to be my new go to place for tires and balancing.

There are hundreds of posts on here about tire shake issues being remedied by a road force balance at the dealer. I am one of them.

Bring it up to date. My new replacement tires are in and have an appointment at 12:30 for a install and balance. I mention to them about the Toyota rims being difficult to balance without this special adapter/cone that everyone is mentioning. They say that they never heard of it so we shall see today. If they are still out of balance then I will take it to a dealer or Tire store and have them balanced at their expense so it is up in the air. We will also see if there was a bad tire after all.:fingerscrossed:

It can't fix a balance, and it's not a gimmick. A road force machine can detect defective tires (by measuring road force variation for a full revolution at a given load) without having to put it on the truck and drive it.

    Agree.

The machine will also tell you where to mount the tire in relation to the wheel to get the balance even closer.

I had 3 tire stores try to balance my wildpeaks to try and fix a shimmy on the highway. Went to the dealer. After the road force balance, night a day difference. Shimmy gone.

It's not the case with all tires but it helped get my wildpeaks smooth.

My current ridge grapplers balanced fine at a basic mom and pop tire place. No road force needed.

These truck are VERY sensitive to how well the tires are balanced.

Well the tires where installed and balanced with no problems. So it was a bad tire. The Taco rides nice now no vibrations. So happy with the results. They did not have to use any special cone to balance the Toyota wheels at all. just saying

Sorry you put so much faith in the machine. It really is a gimmick. Just because it produces data, that doesn't make it meaningful or accurate. People like it because it provides a printout. The reality is that you simply do not need it.

I wouldn't buy Michelins again either. I had a set on my old tundra that wore out just as fast as the set of duelers I had on earlier. Neither made 40k miles. So far goodyears, and generals have given me the best longevity. Even the Goodyear adventures I have now on my tacoma should make 40k miles easy.

I found a buddy of mine to have the best way to balance tires. He has one of these old school dynamic tire balancing units with a strobe thats used on a lift while this unit spins the tires. It's found bad tires, and tires out of balance other shops missed on their latest, and greatest computerized tire balancers.

I’ve caught plenty of bad tires with one that were replaced again before they went back on the vehicle…not a gimmick.
