also be sure that the tires aren't older than 7 years! considering you're a dual-axle, i'd really suggest keeping 2 spares! (learned both lessons the hard way many years ago)

I didn't want to be a cheap ass, but I didn't want to pay $20 for just 1 set of files.

I'll have to search for the file, but on the very thread they're posted on multiple people have asked to see the dies yet no one ever posted pics.

So in short, wanted to check the validity of them myself.

dont you need to scale it 1st? DXF files usually dont have dimensions.

So long story short, someone suggested I needed gooseneck dies to which I replied "my work demand does not justify the cost"

Someone else suggested cutting my own and I instantly became intrigued

Well apparently the guy that created that file you downloaded for me, implied he made them for the Swag brake.

I don't know about you but all my drawings and made to scale but yeah before I actually cut anything I did plan to measure the "top clamping area" to see how large/small it needs to be

 

Funny thing is I had tons of people asking the same question about "why the relief cuts" and "why did you weld them" etc so I made a short video to answer all that and more

Had so many messages on FB not just posts

 

Anyway, you guys are smarter than I am but maybe someone that isn't a welder/fabricator might stumble on it and find it useful here

Again, it's for those just unfamiliar at all with that sort of stuff. I'm not a camera guy and this is probably the only video I've ever made with myself talking; I just shot from the hip trying to remember all I was answering

A few found it useful in the group so that's good.

 

They drop in the 3 radius cutouts to align the pieces and weld together for added strength.

Cut the dies, put them in the press, and drop them all down onto the bed for alignment, then slide in the reinforcing bars, tack them together, take them out and weld them up.

Best case scenario, mill them after welding.

The plate dies do work, but take your time setting them and tacking them. Single piece dies are obviously better, but are rather expensive. You might try Fab Supply so some off the shelf small dies. Last 32" general purpose gooseneck die I bought was around $400, I believe. Worth it once you factor in plate costs, cut time, fab time, and frustration when the left side is hitting 5* harder than the right side... Food for thought

 

Just like Swag's offerings, I figured the radius cuts are where you'd weld them.

As for the 3 long parts, where exactly do they 'drop in' ?

I'd just take a stab at it in an attempt to make myself a small set...no wider than 2.5" really but if I did have to buy a set they're only $165 from Swag

Then again I've got nothing else to do with my time so why not frustrate myself at making a set?
