What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

555 LBJs installed to replace the not very old OEMs with play. We'll see how they hold up.



Also picked up a weather guard toolbox off marketplace.

 

Since my 1998 has gone stand still mode. I went and checked on the 02 and 95. Still running. Birds nest in the 02. But hey, felt cute took a pic

 

I knew there was a write-up you did, just couldn’t locate it- yours was by far the most thorough. Once I got the idea it was pretty easy to remember

 

The 555’s I installed have held up well for about 20k miles, but I don’t put my truck through the rigors you do yours

I looked at your build thread, didn’t see any info if you altered them, did you add the grease zerk to the side? Mine doesn’t have that

Swapped out a tire that I put a hole in wheeling last weekend. Next stop discount tire to get it balanced!

 

Installed a Ravelco antitheft device

Now I can head down the mod rabbit hole without worrying about tweakers stealing my truck w a screwdriver

 

They had a little plug installed, and the zerk came in the hardware bag.

 

FINALLY put the matching passenger seat in. Same range as the tuck and tumble OG setup so I'm very happy. No more back pain for the passengers

my 555 joints lasted 10 years and 100k before the boots cracked. they were still tight but i replaced them under warranty for free (they were "moogs" with lifetime warranty). both sets had grease zerk in the side like his.

I’ve had moogs in the past, they didn’t have a zerk either

 

Sometimes I forget it didn't come that way

 

It’s a nice upgrade for sure, no more hitting my wife in the knees getting into the glove box for shades

 

Anyone ever have a problem not being able to get the key out of the ignition?

My key won't turn past the ignition on/engine off position. The trans is in park, because it won't shift without depressing the button. And I also checked at the linkage under the truck. (My driveway is also steep enough that if it wasn't in park, my truck would not be in my driveway right now lol).

Truck decided to be a bitch the first night of Rubicon and all three nights I had to disconnect the battery because it was keeping the stereo and amps on.

 

Sounds like a bad ignition switch and it's not disengaging the solenoid that lets go of the key because it thinks you're still in accessory position. You can just unplug that solenoid, pretty sure the connector is just on the bottom of the lock cylinder once you take the little trim piece off.

 

I had to swap out the key tumbler and key when mine acted up.

Just got off the Rubicon today, and back to work tomorrow... that was dumb.
