    Oh that's great to know.
I just came back in from inspecting it more thoroughly and am pretty okay with the rest of the frame it seems to be just both body mounts and the hole on the passenger side you repaired here.
I'm going to have a look to see if I can find any good frame shops around here.

Ya, I don’t know if anything can be done. 90 day warranty, probably. I’m sorry. It’s horrible and not right. Honestly, say nothing and with a smile on your face trade it back in with that dealer and buy something rust free. Let it go.

Okay I just came in from crawling under and having a good look and hammer.
The only holes and weak spots I think I found are both body mounts and the hole just to the rear of the passenger side body mount. The frame is crusty and could definitely use a good cleaning and removal of that black stuff. I am not sure of the hitch brace but if need be it could be replaced.

As far as the no dead sound upon hammering goes, I'm assuming the CRC coating can deaden it a bit? In spots it wasn't true dead but muffled. PXL_20230819_172604168.jpg

How long ago did you buy the truck? That hole didn’t “just happen” in 12 months.

You probably already did, but check VIN history for first date that vehicle was put into service. Juts in case. Once that CRC is applied, it's 12 years from first date that vehicle is put in service so you might be damn close but just under the wire?

8 months, had Toyota inspect it and told us about the hole. The other car dealer we purchased it from won't do anything, we mentioned it to them and they told us too bad, honestly was not expecting anything from them.

Open a file with those nice government people. Reckless endangerment is a criminal act even in Canada, I would think.

Somebody is messing with you, this frame wasn’t sprayed in 2020 as they didn’t do the horrible CRC to them here in New Brunswick that year. They did the inside front frame rails with a white grease and put plugs in the holes to stop it leaking out. If it was done in this manner there would be a large black plastic plug within the frame rail next to to cat’s. My 2015 was done in this manner in the fall of 2019 as it was covered under the 2011-2017 recall, yours would have been covered in the 2005 - 2010 and as such would have received the crappy black coating over the entire frame before 2018. From what I can see in the pics this looks like the rustproofing the dealers flogged around here as I have it on mine and it just flaked off till I took it back to them and had it oil coated. There is a reason they traded it in and I am figuring they knew the frame was rotten.

Hmmm Interesting...Both the Toyota dealer and Toyota Canada say it was coated in 2020, I've requested multiple times to be told if they had tried to get the frame replaced in 2020 but nobody will tell me the details. I understand why they can't give me the records, but I don't get why they won't tell me the details of the 2020 appointment. They did mention it had been to another dealer as well but wouldn't tell me where. I get the feeling you are right that they tried getting it replaced and were denied, then traded it in knowing. The Toyota dealership I went to was helpful but I would really be interested to know if they serviced the vehicle between 2020 and 2022 when it was traded in (and when the warranty expired) because they would have seen the hole and failing body mounts.
Also, I kept getting told on the phone by Toyota Canada that the warranty expired in 2019, even I though it should have been 2022, so I don't know what that is all about.

No way was it coated in 2020, and the warranty extended the frame replacement to 12 years from in service date.
Got this off the Canadian Toyota frame settlement.

What benefits may be available under this settlement?

Toyota, while not admitting liability and in return for a release regarding the issues in the lawsuits – explicitly described in section 12 of the Settlement Agreement – will provide benefits to eligible class members, subject to the terms of the Settlement Agreement. Toyota implemented the Frame Inspection and Replacement Program beginning on July 21, 2018 to expedite relief to the Class. You can bring your Subject Vehicle into a Toyota Dealer to have it inspected free of charge. The warranty enhanced frame corrosion coverage is offered until the later of 12 years from the date of first use or until July 21, 2019.
You can read it all here.
    http://www.toyotaframesettlement.ca/faq.html#:~:text=Have%20the%20frame%20of%20your,at%20no%20cost%20to%20you.

If you want to get the history of the truck you basically have to purchase a
car fax. While it won’t tell you a lot of what was done under warranty it will tell you where it was done.
I find most of the Toyota dealers in NB are basically in the market to sell vehicles and very lax on getting information as there is no money in it for them.
There is an email address you might want to send an inquiry to on that webpage to see if they can provide you with any info but include that Toyota told you it was done in 2020 while the program ended before that.

I own a 2007 Tacoma with original frame. Bought it in Florida with very little rust. Brought it to Northern New England in 2019. Missed the frame recall. Frame still solid.

I found out that different Toyota dealers use different coatings to coat an old frame. Some use a lanolin product like Fluid film or NH oil.
That's what you want! It must be applied annually, but it works!

Other dealerships use something that's more of a rubberized product, and that's crap!

My truck frame was coated with the crap product in 2019 for $600 (Auto Armour, or something like that). You don't want that because it encapsulates the rust, and the product tends to flake off over time. They even redid it 2 years later for free.

After alot of reading, I decided to have the crap product removed from the frame, then coated with NH oil annually. A Toyota dealer that uses NH oil agreed to do this for me, but I'm having it done by a private shop.

If you are in the rust belt, beware of dealerships coating old frames with crap product. You want Fluid Film, NH oil or something similar, and annually!

Other truck brands, and sales lots, do this too, with old trucks. Watch out!

I found some small holes near the cats and some small holes in the front cab mounts, all if which formed underneath that rubberized shit from Toyota.

Thankfully I found them before they were too bad. I wheeled everything down to bare metal on the frame from the front all the way back to the rear cab mounts, ground all rust out plus a small margin, zinc etched and POR-15'd the frame, and used 3/16 plate for the cab mounts and Saf-T-Caps "front" sections on both sides.

It was a lot of labor but absolutely worth it, and the Saf-T-Caps are an extremely high quality product.

The whole story is in this thread, but the actual frame repairs start at page 3:

Remains to be seen I bought the tires and wheels the rest came along
The repair is more dependent on the person doing the work.

Safety cap makes a decent product for those lacking the skills to fabricate there own parts.

Expensive yes !! Check around you might have safety cap installers in your area.

Dealing with a fabricator always talk before hand never show up with parts and say can you install this for me.

This can get very expensive With the steel prices and labor a quote of $4000.00 or more is possible. All depending a up close personal inspection.

Some places demand the fuel tank be removed for any welding on vehicles things can and will break.

    Best of Luck!

So do you actually think every mechanic doing independent inspections is hammering every part of every frame to check for weak spots? Or are you just trying to be a contrarian idiot?

This thread inspired me to check all the nooks and crannies yesterday. The worst rust is around the body mounts just behind the front wheels, not too far gone yet that annual rust treatment shouldn't take care of things for years to come, but also looks like a part that's easy to chop off and replace when / if it gets too bad. The hitch itself is worse, but the frame around it is in surprisingly good shape.

They did that black CRC coating to the older 2nd gens. I want to say '05 to '10's. After that they did the white seam sealer stuff. I had an '09 with the black coating and had to dump it due to the coating rusting underneath. Coating was done in 2019 on that truck. Also shortly had a 2014 that had the latest treatment which is the white seam sealer type stuff.

Does this make my truck a Unicorn? It had the full frame replaced AND had the coating and plugs in 2019.

    Maybe? :notsure:

My '09 was bought at a Toyota dealer so they did all the CRC, plugs, and leaf spring recall before I bought it. Several months later I noticed a hole start forming in the passenger cab mount. Took it back and they basically told me to pound sand. Traded it in in 2020 for a new 2021. They sold the truck to someone in Maryland so after the initial inspection there's no more. Likely there's some pretty good holes in that frame by now.
