    Hi all,

Just wanted some insight/see if anyone else has this issue. So we got quite a bit of rain today in LA (Hurricane Hilary and all that) I was putting my stuff on the passenger seat before heading to work and noticed there was water on my floor mats. There wasnt any underneath but I didnt open the truck or drive it today. I was in a hurry to leave and I think some of the water has kind splashed around when I was driving. Anyway it looks a little worse on the drivers side.

When I pulled into work I felt around the trim under the glove box and under the steering wheel.

This is about how much water is on the passenger side
    upload_2023-8-20_18-23-21.png

Drivers side. It looks a little worse since I did step in and out and got the mat even more wet than it was. Still more water compared to the passenger side
    upload_2023-8-20_18-24-25.png

The trim above the pillar is where I felt moisture on the passenger side
    upload_2023-8-20_18-28-6.png

For the drivers side I felt moisture behind the thing you pull to open the engine bay. But none where I put the white circle

Any input would be appreciated! Not sure if I should be concerned or w.e. I dont remember if it was already like this when we had rain back in February/March and it was a lot more back then. I havent done mods that involve this area between March and now either.

    Thanks again!

Has the windshield ever been replaced? If it has, it might be that it wasn’t sealed correctly.

Hmmmm. The only thing that comes to mind if it’s been raining would be the windshield. That’s weird. I wonder if it could be the seams on the roof where those rubber strips are? Have no idea.

Do you have a sunroof? I had a 100 series Land Cruiser before my Tacoma that leaked like that when my drain lines were clogged for my sunroof. To be honest, the motor on my sunroof was already dead so I just sealed the hell out of it with RTV gasket maker and called it a day, but there are some easy ways to blow out the drain lines if that’s the case.

Speaking of which, what are those seams on the roof? What is the purpose? What is underneath them? Mine have a small gap on one side, that looks bigger than the other side. I keep my truck in the garage. I've never noticed any leaks, but am concerned it could be an issue this fall.

The big black rubber trim bits? Mainly cosmetic covers for the cab/roof joint and rain gutters to prevent rain water from dripping over into the door when opened. Underneath are sealed areas that a roof rack would bolt through to if installed. The rubber trim bits are not a seal of any kind.

Best way I find leaks is I remove the floor liner and whatever plastic pieces so I can see the fire wall/ sheet metal.

If you see daylight (park in the sun) you found your leak.

Or garden hose 1 very specific area at a time (with a friend) and literally watch for a leak. Be patient.

Ok ill try the sun or hose thing. No sunroof either!

The only possibility that comes to mind is I replaced my tweeters but again I dont see any moisture from that area and the trim is back on snug and sits flush

Maybe one of the tweeters didn't get snugged all the way down and CCR "Have You Ever Seen The Rain" came on the radio.

If it is still under warranty, why not take it in?

Maybe take it through an automatic car wash? Be well-equipped with a flashlight, camera, and/or helper along for the ride.

Do you have a roof rack? I didn’t have wet spots on top of my floor mats but the bottoms front passenger carpet is wet. I’m starting to think it’s my roof rack bolt holes are leaking. Also considering the sunroof drain might be clog.
Any idea how to clear it? Or exactly location for this drain?

Might have to give this one a shot!

No sunroof but I did exchange my oem rubber strips for the oem roof rack. I dont know if its this; the carpet isnt wet. It feels like the water leaked from the bottom part of what would be the entire dash???

Guess i'll just have to try the car wash :annoyed: or take it in

And there it is! OP, focus on the roof rack as that is (most likely) your source of water intrusion. A little dab of quality silicone on top of each mounting screw should solve your problem.

    Ding ding ding!!!

OP might I recommend that you take off the rack bolts, and toss some silicone inside it, then re-install.

    Hey all

So after combing a little more in the forum I settled on a sealant but now I'm kind of wondering what part of the screws I should put them on??

Definitely the door rack. You gotta seal those bolts up!
I had mine leak for a bit while I had one.

I’d put a dab on the half of the bolts that are near the head of the bolt, or whatever part will be poking out of the cab.
Or just everything. Up to you
