06 trd prerunner. This taco is my back vehicle, but I’ve owned it since 38k miles and it’s at 211k now. Over the last two years I’ve been dealing with brake issues. Everything I’ve read over the last two years tells me that this in common in these things. The first issue was two bad master cylinders and I changed the booster as well. I’ve probably bled close to 4 gallons of fluid through it, bled abs , bled master upon install, checked fuses and so on. I mean everything I know to do I’ve done about ten times. She’ll stop quickly but it’s just not the firm pedal that we all know. Not getting any codes from system, I check all the time. Most would move on and live with it but I know my vehicles and do all my own repairs so it’s irritating at this point. What could I possibly be missing? Not leaking fluid anywhere. I’m sure several of you have also dealt with this so maybe I’m missing something but I can’t imagine what. Thanks for any input

Rear drum break star adjuster. Works for parking break and for main breaking.

I adjust mine nearly every other weekend, and gain a less spongy break.

The vacuum master cylinder is just going to be a spongy setup. Go drive a new tacoma thats not a TRD OR 4x4.

The brakes on this thing were great for a better part of a decade now it’s this. Like I said they’re fine and roadworthy but i remember how firm they felt and this isn’t it.

Hmm, have you rebuilt calipers / rear pistons?

Non stop issues for brakes are pretty serious in my opinion. I mean, stopping is like their whole purpose.

I'll show myself out... and no, I have nothing useful to contribute here, much as in life.

I’m going to try this today. I’ve put on new calipers and drum kits in last year.5. I’m fairly certain I did this but couldn’t hurt to try again just in case thx

A very common issue, getting air in the abs module. You said you bled the abs, how was it done?

The need to do the above adjustment procedure would be my second guess. After doing it on mine, the pedal felt more firm but it wasn’t what Id call spongy before.
