The next ten miles of dirt road dust is what you avoid. Those same ten miles of dust is what backs up the entire flow of traffic because I won’t be anywhere near the vehicle in front of me to avoid being inside said cloud of dust.

That looks a lot more like an actual rider! I don’t have any SOHC/4 CBs but a couple of 350 twins. Thing about CV carbs tho is that they’ll never run nearly as good with pods as the factory air-box (or at least velocity stacks). They’re actually restrictive and rob you of torque and power. Add in the ever popular mini mufflers, and it compounds the issues.

Being that you actually ride yours, how’s the front feel with no mud guard? I like the brat cafe look too (tho not the open triangle style personally) but I found my forks twisting way too much, and made a brace for them. Granted 750 forks are a little sturdier

Don't come to California then. Everyone lane splits or rides up to the front of construction zones and stop lights. Even yesterday in the twisties all the motorcyclists (including me) rode to the front of all the construction zones. Riding to the front is far safer than being a sitting duck at the back of traffic, especially around a blind corner. I've been rear ended several times in a car, I don't need to experience it on a bike.

When I'm in a car and a motorcyclist splits by me or goes to the front of the line, I don't view it as cutting any line, I just view it as them just doing their own thing. To me getting mad at motorcyclists for "cutting" a line is like getting mad at an airplane for "cutting" in line by flying overhead. It's just as silly. Plus I'd rather a fast motorcyclist go in front of me instead of tail gating me the entire way up/down a hill. Most people here just let bikes pass with no issue (usually the out of state plate cars are the ones causing issues).

Big sigh, when traffic starts to move the bike accelerates and carries on his merry way . If he stays in line he is surrounded by cars. As far as riding on the shoulder ahead of stopped traffic ,you don't rip by you idle by. Stay in the lineup if you want I'll move to the front , not in regular stop and go traffic but in construction 15 minute road stoppages. Every situation is different sometimes you sit and sometimes you just need to get in front of the motor home. Ride how you want or conditions and laws dictate.

Yeah this is a DOHC 1981. I actually have a fender I bought but managed to snap one of the mounting bolts when I was a youngin' and didn't know better and just haven't drilled it out to put it back on  Definitely notice some twist when pushing it hard. My carbs are CV, but these pods are well oiled and restrictive enough to get the slides moving up. I know the internet says it'll never run right with pods, but it can and it does.

Agree California is different because it is legal to lane split.

There’s another 1000 miles left on those tires.

They kinda shocked me. Of course people on the fb group say they are pure junk. I tend to think most of them are keyboard pro riders without much experience. I've read pretty good things about the Tusk D Sports I'm replacing them wit.....time will tell :D

It’s not just the internet, it’s physics. And I’ve tried it all myself, having been guilty of a lot of silly mods before. The factory air boxes have rubber “velocity stacks” in them. IDK about the 750 but on the smaller bikes you can pull them out and stick pods on the ends, which looks a bit goofy (unless you have side covers) but really improves performance. Their length is tuned for intake pulse modulation. I’m sure your bikes runs, but I’m also sure it would run better if you put a real air-box on it is all I’m saying :)

Are the carb boots on the 750 rubber? That’s another issue with the smaller CBSs if you run pods. The OEM air box supports the carbs. Without, the weight of the carbs will ultimately cause the rubber to crack and give you an intake leak.

Anyone here felt the weight difference between the Norden 901 and the R1250GS? On paper its about 120lbs. Any personal experience? Pops is getting older and needs something lighter and more manageable and the r1250gs is just too big now

Those FYP shocks are actually decent if you’re willing to open them up. There was a guy on a cafe racer Reddit page that used to offer rebuilds for them really cheap. The biggest problem he noted was that they used cheap oil at assembly and suffered from inconsistent nitro charges even in a pair. According to him and a few others, the shim stack was actually valves right for most riders as long as you picked the right length. A quick drain and fill with good oil even pressure and you were good to go!

Shit you not, I just placed an order for the skid/bash plate. Just before I seen your post about the Versys.
