I think they are $20K because that’s what they actually cost.
You should also try doing the math on those fuel savings.

 

Have any batteries ever produced lasted 22 to 37 years? I can’t even get over 4 years out of my Tacoma battery.

 

Back when they had the stupid Snorkle on the Pro l thought the same thing about only being installed if the customer wanted it

 

Fuel *and* maintenance savings over 250k miles or so add up, and you’re really looking at more like 13-16k

 

Today you learned that lead acid and lithium batteries are different

 

That weird bulge/angle by the rear bumper is growing on me, would love to see the DCLB version of the SR5.

All batteries have a limited life. Does your cell phone battery last forever? How about a laptop or power tools?

---- Believe it or not, we just replaced a batteries in our Camry and Corolla ---the battery was 10 years old. Only was a little slow when cranking, probably could've used it a little longer. Cheap Walmart battery too.
I can believe batteries can last a while. I have a Timex watch that is at least 10 years old and keeps time just fine, Date function and Indiglo works as well. These are much smaller that an EV battery but with time, I'm sure we'll get longer battery longevity in the future.

Oh, I can, and I can do it without the faulty assumptions a paid consulting firm drew up that informs your opinion.

here you go. I live in CA. Off peak electricity costs around $.24/kWh when charging overnight. Over 250k miles @34kwh/100 miles, it’s about $20,900 in electricity. Bump it up $2000 if you use a lot of commercial charging in that time. $22,900

At 30mpg, an ICE car will use $29000 in gas on that same 250k miles at a $3.50/gal average, which we all know isn’t quite reasonable. At $4.50 a gallon, reasonable where I live, it’s 37,500, for a savings of just under $15k.

but wait, I don’t have to change oil, brakes last 3x as long, no timing belt replacement, no water pump failure, no blown radiator, no transmission repair or fluid changes, no air filters, no CV axles. So maybe over 250k miles on that brand new car you spend $5-7k on maintenance. Seems like that more than covers the 13-16k battery pack, plus the car is faster for more smiles from the stop light.

oh not at all! I constantly misspeak and make mistakes all the time, forget to add words. My mind moves faster than my hands at times, plus being dyslexic…when I go back and read some of the stuff I wrote, it makes no sense since I tend to jumble words around. He doesn't know. right now we all just have manufacturer data. Some 1996 Prius' still have the original battery.

 

Did you leave out the part where the EV costs way more up front? What about buying and installing a charger at your house? I’m at 173K on my truck right now and haven’t had any repairs other than a driveshaft that an EV wouldn’t also need.

 

BUt the batteries cost $20k to replace every 300,000 miles and they explode, and the upfront cost is too much. All this has been debated and Turd still and won't understand the facts.
