Sure, an install is a couple grand. Still works.
And nobody said you had to buy one, so don’t if you don’t want to.

It’s almost as if people who want an ICE vehicle can go buy one. I wonder why they get so upset about EVs

Paid just shy of $40K OTD for my Taco, spent $3906.71 on fuel last year. Keep track since I use the truck for business. Last year spent zero dollars on service since it was under Toyota Care, this year is $604.39 so far, probably be at $1200 by the end of the year as a couple major services are due soon.

Closest truck out there to a Taco is a Rivian. Did the dual motor (cheapest), max pack battery to get range somewhat close to my Tacoma, can eke out around 400 miles, the Rivian is saying 335. Adventure package to get the all terrain tires like what I run. Sure some features are going to be different, but tried to get it setup as close to my Toyota as possible. Range is the kicker, $16K for that Max Pack.

Idaho sales tax is 6%, registration is $69. OTD you’re looking at around $103K. Give or take a couple bucks.

Sooo, someone want to do the math on that for me, I am missing a couple fingers and can’t…

People who buy the rivian don’t do it because it’s cheaper to buy and operate than a Tacoma.

    How hard is this concept?

Thought we are doing comparative cost over the course of (how many years were you guys saying 10-12???)

How long can I fuel/service my Tacoma for the price difference of the Rivian? $103K for it, and haven’t even charged it yet.

So do the math for me. You’re smarter than me. Obviously…

I saw a surprising study from DOE predicting that EV usage in the US will only be at ~30% of new vehicles by 2050, or something to that effect. We get to have this debate for another 25 years!

Again, people who buy the rivian don’t do so because it’s cheaper than the Tacoma to own and operate. It’s a halo vehicle that was only recently introduced to cater to a high-earning market segment.

now, the model 3 MSRPs for 45k or so with some popular options, but also qualifies for a $7500 tax rebate. I can think of a lot of $45k cars that I’d cross shop with it. I can think of a lot more $37k cars I would as well. No, I wouldn’t cross shop a base Kia forte with it.

    I don’t want a Tesla.

I want a Rivian since it is the EV closest to a Tacoma, so I am cross shopping with that. I can afford both, but what is the best bang for the buck?

Again….Are you going to do the math for me or not? I dropped out of school in the 4th grade…

You’ve made it clear with dozens of posts that there isn’t an EV truck for your situation, so stop pretending to be serious about it. Since there isn’t, don’t buy one. Literally nobody has asked you to

However, if you do, you’ll likely find that the operating cost savings will easily cover the hypothetical replacement battery cost when compared to a similarly expensive ICE vehicle.

You and I both know that buying a vehicle that’s $50k more expensive changes the math.
I never said “a rivian’s total cost of ownership is cheaper than a Tacoma’s,” so I’m not sure what you’re arguing

Sure you do, Turd brought it up. You never included the upfront cost of the EV of what is cheapest to own and operate.

Truck vs Truck while not exact, Tacoma vs Rivian are close as far as lifestyle vehicles go.

So give me a cost break between the two, want to see the numbers, I can’t do it since I was kicked in the head by a mule at age 13.

Well a Toyota EV truck of some design, most likely a Tacoma, will be here in 3 years. Possibly with a solid state battery. It's worth the wait for me.

Can you tell me where turd was talking about the rivian vs Tacoma, and not EVs in general? I missed that.

but here you go: you are right, the rivian is vastly more expensive to buy than a Tacoma, and the total cost of ownership will be higher on almost any time scale.

Oh and the battery will catastrophically fail and leave you and your family in a dangerous situation without warning and you’ll probably die in a lithium fire and they’ll even deny your life insurance claim.

Need to see your math, how did you come to your answer? :) Again, I can’t do it…had a horrible cotton gin accident when I was 17.
