Warranty issues ranging from cosmetic to accessory failures but mostly being completely fked if you get into any kind of collision, however minor.

Skipping a few pages, are we still arguing about Rivians & Tacomas or have we moved on yet?

Hey remember when Taco Tuesdays revealed something? Wouldn't a build and price reveal today be absolute tits?

Does anyone here remember when they 3rd gen TRD Pro had a snorkel?
Were those added in the build page or as a dealer add on?

Filling your tank at E is so bad for your fuel pump . But that's impressive

Can't recall, I do know they came from the factory as they had a different passenger side fender with a hole stamped for the snorkel. Presumably the DAI was installed at the factory, and probably was shown on the lable. The fender stamping was probably the most expensive part of the process, and the cause of it being disconnected as an option.

    Edit 2019, and I think 2020.

That’s a myth. I’ve been driving to E and beyond my entire life and have never had a fuel pump fail, yet…

    That's pretty interesting.
I know I don’t need a snorkel for any reason, I’m no where near strictly dusty environments but like the look of some of them. The 4th gen has a pretty nice looking design. Maybe it’ll be an option for the pro if it makes sense to get one.

The snorkel was for the 19 model Voodoo blue. I just read something that said you can add a factory snorkel so I assume it was an extra. I saw my first Rivian the other day. Nice size but I couldn't spend that much on a truck, who knows what the resale will be in a few years. I also like to get a new rig every couple years. I am guessing if the Tacoma EV comes out it won't be to far off in price. I wish Canada would get the new Prerunner. Right now I am leaning towards a non hybrid offroad manual.

In the 11 months and 16,320 miles of ownership with my wife’s Model Y we have spent exactly $558.48 combined between supercharging and charging at home. Our home charger was completely free as our electric co-op paid for the upfront cost to purchase and any install related expense.

At $0.07/kWh her car payment nearly off sets the previous cost of fueling a 30 mpg comparably equipped AWD vehicle at $5.00/gallon.

The air intake was was on the 17,18,19 and 20 I know the 18 had one because they had one on the lot but it was on more then one year. And it was an option when you built it if I recall. I'm sure someone has the exact years though.

Does she off-road the Tesla? Haul lumber and bags of concrete? What is it like camping out of it?

Fill it when the light comes on which is right around E, usually it states it has 19-21 miles left to go. Never did the Seinfeld/Cramer episode with it. When you run them dry that is the problem. They might loose their prime too.

At E there are a few gallons left, so you’re ok. These trucks have a 21 gallon tank, when I fill it takes 18 gallons…should we have DopeCity do the math? :)

Have done that with all my Toyotas, my 1st Gens fuel pump did fail, but at 400,000 miles which is pretty good. It was just old.

GMs vehicles usually go at 100K.

If you drive these trucks conservatively they can achieve decent mileage, pretty simple, drive the speed limit and don’t race to from stop to stop.

Keeping it stock helps too, have 32s on it, and that is all I am doing to it.

My 1G has a lift, ARB bumper and had a camper, it gets 15-17. Plus a manual, the auto in my 3G short shifts better than I do. People complain about that, but for mpgs that is exactly what it is supposed to do, not wind out the gears.

Sir we can only compare Tacomas to Teslas, because they are so similar doncha know.

Sure would like to get the pricing on a SR5 DCLB, so I can compare it to a Tundra SR DC6.5’.

Now we wait for people to complain why I would compare the those two, and not to a Polestar…

I thought it was a 19 but also a 20 only two years

A little while back I spent a week with a 2020 Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro. It came fitted with the accessory TRD ‘Desert Air Intake’, or ‘snorkel’ for anyone not directly affiliated with Toyota’s marketing and legal department. Toyota introduced the part alongside the 2019 model year Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro,

Compare these three vehicles. A Tesla 3 Dual Motor at $47K, a Toyota Crown Limited at $46K, and a 2023 Tacoma Limited 4x4 at $46K. Haven't seen the Tesla or Crown in person but they appear to be similar vehicles.

The Tesla has a dual motor (all wheel drive) powertrain that makes it go 0-60 in 4.2s. That same powertrain in a heavier truck (Tacoma) would still have plenty of power. If Tesla and Toyota can build similar cars for the same price and Toyota can build comparable cars and trucks for the same price, why can't we have an EV truck that kicks butt for the same price?

Because the EV truck is going to take a shiton more power to move. Battery capacity and weight is substantial over an aerodynamic efficient design like the Crown or Tesla. Adds substantial cost.

Not to mention the steel frame, larger brakes, heavy duty suspension, larger wheels/tires, etc etc.

Think it is coming. @stevesnj keeps saying ‘26-27. We might see it by ‘25. Well we already did, just no specs or pricing.

Rivian is so expensive because they are trying to recoup investment dollars being a startup. Teslas were fairly expensive at first, since they have grown they now have released more inexpensive models (notice I didn’t say cheap)

Why are the Lightnings so expensive if Ford can absorb the investment dollars elsewhere, who knows?

Universal skateboard chassis “should” be able to keep cost lower.

Well it could certainly haul a trailer without any issue when it comes to bags of concrete or lumber. It does have a camp mode but the Tacoma is currently king in that department.
