I'd consider riding a carbed bike once more if I could get my hands on a late model Honda Magna. And even then I'd probably work out putting one of those EFI conversion kits on it.

Oooh that looks fun. Are the efi conversions pretty straightforward? They weren’t a thing until recently it seems.

Visiting a country last week where lane splitting is legal and all the people on bikes seem to have equal parts composure and death wish makes me want to get the bike back together.

The EFI kits are like cake for a single cylinder and twin engine... bit more work on a 4cyl or 6 but it is pretty easy to get the important stuff from wrecked goldwings (best place to find the independent throttle bodies with little injector holes in them) and other EFI bikes that match the manufacturer you're working with bike wise. The kits generally come with a fuel tank retrofit kit for fuel pump, an injector harness, injectors, computer, spark controller for coil or CDI depending on what you have or want to convert to, and some fuses and wiring. The toughest part is getting cam and crank signal, but if you're okay running wasted spark you just need a crank signal and they provide tone rings for a multitude of engines. I've seen people put them on old 1970s and 1980s single cylinder bikes in like 2hrs and be off and tuning immediately. I'd be totally fine running wasted spark and batch fire ignition on a magna with a single car throttle body even, be easy on that engine since all the cyls are physically close to each other.

Does anyone in Palm Springs have a good time? Either it's flooding or 110* out. Neither sound ideal.

Its crazy, took the big tires off the truck and went on a diet, and that thing seems to sip fuel. Tank lasts 2 weeks and 300 miles, twice as much as my actual daily. Put $30 in it and it's plenty to make it through the week.
I mean technically we all have a reserve tank but we don't think of it that way. Once the gas light is on, usually when the needle hits 0, that's your reserve fuel. Didn't really register with me until I had the Mercedes. Just under a 1/4 tank the light comes on and the dash will tell you your on reserve fuel, fill it up!

I've never had a low fuel light on a bike... actually or on a tacoma now that I think about it. Cruiser and Corolla have em though...

It was about as intense as the 'atmospheric river' storm events we had last winter, pretty intense rain most of the day. But absolutely no wind which is what I was expecting to be the worst part. I think we got around 5" total in my area, but some got 10 or more which caused pretty bad flooding. So overall it wasn't nothing but it certainly didn't justify the crazy 24/7 emergency broadcast coverage it was getting imo.

My mom lived out there for a few years, visiting in the summer was absolute hell. I don't know how anyone survives out there half the year. but she eventually moved from there to Monterey which was like moving from the 7th circle of hell into heaven itself, 65/70˚ year round.

    Second - what model/year?

I had a 97 328is that I put 220K on before I had to sell it [still super regret this] - it ran like a champ [I pushed it hard] and never gave me any shit; very reliable, built like a tank!

Now I have a 11 128is that is at 102K - it is pretty reliable, minus a few dumb nanny sensors and has never given me trouble either..

That BMW inline 6 engine is super reliable.
With BMW's you just have to maintain them properly and they will last.
This is excluding that stupid turbo 4 banger they put in the 3 series - those tend to blow at 70-90K - that engine sux.

If money were no object I wouldn't mind swapping it into a little old Toyota pickup
