Preferred place (website) to sell a bike?

I recently upgraded and it's time to sell the older/smaller bike (Sportster 883), but it's been forever since I sold a bike — last time was in 2005'ish.

Is there a preferred website, these days, to sell a bike? I can think of a few off the top of my head, such as Craigs List, eBay, etc., but maybe there's one that a lot of people like? Something motorcycle specific and, therefore, less bullshit artists?

I'm also not on Facebook, so the (popular) Marketplace is not an option for me.

Hah, good point. I need to give it a wash (its been getting dusty in the garage since I got the newer bike) and take some photos — but when I do, I'll certainly post them in this thread for good measure.

To answer your question though, for a bike-specific site, Cycletrader works, too

 

Cycle Trader is where I usually look. Not sure what percentage they might charge as it 's mostly used by dealers.

 

Hah, well, if you want more info now, it's an 06 Sportster 883 with a little under 11,000 miles. Bone stock except for some official HD saddlebags. It just had a bunch of work done to change all fluids and gaskets (to prep it for safe/confident sale). I'll try to clean it up and take/share some photos by the weekend.

I haven't really thought much about it yet; I aim to poke around, see what others are asking for like bikes, etc.

Aha, I did find an older photo of it from a couple years ago, and, honestly, it's still exactly like this because I didn't change anything:

 

That bike would sell for $4500-$5500 in a minute here in Colorado. For the next 2 months anyway. Once it gets cold, prices drop dramatically.

 

Very nice. Cycle Trader seems to be listing them around $5k +/- $500 for anywhere from 4k miles to 20k miles, no saddlebags though

 

Huh, thanks @Deathbysnusnu and @Scrovak. I didn't yet consider the season/timing… I should do this soon, or wait until the spring.

 

Happy to help! For Mass, your best bet is probably late April to early July. Earlier and it's too cold to register and test drive comfortably, too much later and there's not much season left to ride

 

If you're on any motorcycle specific forums you can list it for sale there as well. As others have already posted timing is an issue too. If I were looking at this point in the riding season I'm going to try to lowball the seller knowing I can only get about 2 months use this late in the season.
