Thinking about whether to put a locker in the front or rear of my 1G Tundra. First thought is to put it in the rear, but it does have the factory limited slip already. Maybe it'll be more advantageous to put a locker in the front since the rear already has a little something. Thoughts? :D

What @Dalandser said. If it wasn't maintained or just wore out keeping it won't do you any good.

Also using a front locker has risks compared to the rear. It can break anything from cv axles, to driveshafts, to even your front diff if not used correctly. Granted, its definitely possible to use one cautiously and not have any issues, but its something to keep in the back of your mind. A rear locker can also cause binding issues but its far less likely to than the front and is much safer. That is why Toyota isn't a fan of putting front lockers in any of their trucks.

He's a slow learner sometimes. I'm still shocked but proud that he finally got a 4wd

Also you misspelled his name in your phone :jerkoff:

Not sure. Haven't really wheeled it much, is there a way to tell whether it's kicking in or not? I haven't had a vehicle with an lsd before.
All good points, I do prefer the idea of a rear locker.
Hahaha hey wait a minute. I took the advice but asked some more people, and I was asked to say it here to boost this thread soooooo :luvya:. Plus waiting for moola from the potential taco sale :fingerscrossed:

That can be arranged.... for a price :jerkoff:

1st gen Tundras came with a mechanical LSD at first, then they switched to an “electronic LSD” which is a misnomer and isn’t a LSD at all it’s just traction control. The electronic version is only active in 2wd for some reason.

None of this matters for real offroading as neither is as good as a locker. LSD is great for construction zones & gravel driveways.

There aren't a lot of ways to go out and test it other than to go out and test it out. You can jack it up and spin the wheels which will give you a slight idea though. If they both spin the same way it does still work on some level. If only one spins or they spin opposite ways, the LSD is junk. The only problem with this test is it doesn't take much friction to get the tires to spin together in the air and though they might spin like that, the spring clutches might be so worn out they won't do anything offroad

What's the price? Asking for.... group buy purposes... :anonymous:

The electronic LSD was pretty useless but the mechanical one actually isn't bad. They do make a surprising difference with traction and work pretty damn well when they want to. That is the real problem with them though, you never know if/when they are working or how well. Its a big time guessing game so when it comes time to do locker stuff you might be SOL. The locker gives you a lot more control and guaranteed grip.

@Nicklovin yours will have the mechanical one *if* it does have an LSD which is the good one. I will say I do like the LSD a lot over nothing, it got me through a fair amount of stuff when I drove that 03 Tundra around, but that thing was also a barely used, 100k mile baby so the clutches were still good. Yours could be worn out, and at the end of the day, true locker is always better than LSD no matter how you look at it.

I just realized, there should probably be a disclaimer for this pic that you checked all the options boxes and are getting lockers and other goodies too. The base regear is no where near this much lol :anonymous::spending:

Yeah…my invoice is a yeet. Or a yolo. Not sure which one the kids would use in this context.
