California is $0.34-0.53 per kWh, where EVs would have to get majority adoption. Don’t mean to pump CA, if it’s not economical hear it ain’t taking off.

It looks like the average in MA is now .33 per kWh. We also have the no new gas vehicle sales by 2035 law. WTF.

Carbon capture might be an option. I think if runs in regular gas engines or it's supposed to

I would in a heartbeat if I could get a Powerwall! I have 300 days of sun a year and a roof pitch with southern orientation. I would have whole house energy backup for power outages, be able to charge the car on solar - all 6.05kWh it takes to fuel the commute, and never pay a power bill again. If I could finance the array and a Powerwall into a 10-year payment at $120/month it would be a no-brainer akin to buying the Tesla last year.

    IMG_8109.jpg

That aside quite a few of my neighbors have rooftop solar. When flying in and out of Central Oregon you see Solar Farms for miles across the desert. 2/3 of the state is high desert with sunshine most days….just ask all the Californians that have migrated.

What’s the issue? Too expensive or not available?

Not available currently. With the federal tax rebates for solar it would be around $35k-$42k to have a system installed including 2 Powerwalls. Lots of new construction in the area have Solar Panels at time of sale. Haven’t seen any on the market with Powerwalls yet.

Does that $14K for the powerwall include the solar array? Or are the panels separate?

We have thought of doing solar, but Idaho is already 75% renewable, by 2045 supposedly 100%, probably be dead by then, so one less person emmitting CO2 and consuming resources, unless I donate my corpse to the Forensic Anthropology Research Facility. ;) We have no offspring so the strain on the planet ends with us. With that in mind think that gives us enough carbon credits to buy a vehicle with the shittyist fuel consumption. :D

Power Wall price has gone up over the years, especially due to sUpPlY cOnStRaInT issues despite everything else being mostly normal again these days.

We had an estimate done and with the way the tax works, we at best saved like $10/mo or at worst spent an extra $75/mo. That was a roof install without batteries. Paying someone else to install your array is currently (bazing) a fool’s errand. I’ll do a ground mount after we knock some other home improvements out.

I would add solar if we planned on staying in our current house long term. It’s going to take 20-30 years to break even with buying a system and leasing/renting a system can create issues when going to sell the home. I wish the government put more effort into affordable solar and less about electric cars.

That is the other thing, not sure how long we will be at this house. We both keep threatening on selling it and buying something else…or sell everything and hitting the road.

Know it adds value, but there is no guarantee you get it back out if you do sell.

I couldn’t give money to Musk based on principles. For a guy who says he wants to save humanity, he sure isn’t very nice to people. Not to mention a list of things why I don’t like the guy. Just another fraudster.

Careful, the boot lickers will come for you like they did me a few hundred pages ago.

We looked into in the event we got a BEV in the future and could charge off the wall at night, or at least use it to mitigate HVAC costs so the off hour cost per hour was lower to charge. I told her my next vehicle will prob be a midsize truck / SUV again since she’ll need the third row (talking about Sequoias early and often lol) and it’ll likely be a hybrid, but I wanted to prepare while we could still get a tax break. It’s all area dependent.

Lol….the Musk Cultists, almost as bad as that other guy. They are only in it for the money, not sure why people can’t see that.

Dunno….never could understand celeb worship. Probably shouldn’t even mention anything about Toyota worship either… lol!

Sorry guy, you're in the wrong thread. This is for EV talk and penis comparison only. But we'll let you know in a year.

    Lol! A “few”…

    lol!

Someone needs to get on the horn with Toyota and tell them we need more details in the 4G. This off topic discussion is entertaining and all, but….

    Back on/off topic,

the real reason I want to trade in my 3rd gen for a 4th is to get rid of some of those cup holders and the square hole… AND the Sun reflection always blinding me from the shifter plate.

Though, I have the perfect sized push pump hand sanitizer in the square hole that’ll be a shame to give up…

    Just in case /s :rofl::anonymous:
