Is it easy to delete the keyless entry module? Mine is 89730-yy140. I do not have a key fob that works, and it is a PITA for me. If I just disconnect the unit, what happens? Is that all it takes?

That pretty much all it takes, plus you can get a pretty penny for it too if it's OEM

I've tried several after market key fobs, as well as one supposedly for Toyota @ 95 dollars thru AutoZone. No Joy.

Then, I took a drive with a weak battery (had to charge it to start the truck), the battery being from 2017. The horn would beep 7 to 10 times every few minutes while driving. This went on for 30 minutes, so I returned home and parked the truck. I installed a new battery a couple of weeks later. Now it is no crank no start, and the horn blows and the lights flash like I'm being robbed.

I intend to delete the factory keyless and then hopefully it will start.

I'm quite ok with using the key at the door and being basic. This is my truck for basic chores around the house. Like dump runs.

Theres a ground on the stock system that turns "on" and "off" the theft deterrent system, to turn it "off" you need to connect the 1 pin ground wire.

Bandido, this sounds promising and I appreciate this. I was not aware that the system could be turned on or off.

Where would this 1 pin ground wire be?

I've got basic electric/mechanical skills, but this is new territory for me.

I currently work as an elec engineer designing utility distribution systems. I'm about to retire at age 71 or maybe next year. I wonder if the Tacoma could be a rebuild/customization project to keep my mind active.

I viewed your link to your truck, and I'm impressed with what you've done.

My previous Toyota was a 1984 truck based Dolphin MH. 4 speed stick with the 4 cyl and carb. We drove it coast to coast 13 times over 10 years. Great truck. Camper just sticks and staples, but good enough. Also have a 1999 Prizm (corolla) and a 2017 Sienna.

    Anyway, where's the ground?

It's usually under the steering column/dash almost directly "above" the hood release.

If you take the front left kick panel out, and the driver's side under dash out you can trace the bunch of wires from the medium black box labeled "rs3200" behind the kick panel up to about where that latch would be and there should be a single white wire with black stripe that is unplugged, plug it in.

You are doing the opposite mod of the 1st gen "free VIP security upgrade"

    Well,
Could not find the ground... tried again the second day, then removed the entire 89730-yy140 module. Truck locks, unlocks, and starts with no flashing lights or blasting horn now. It works the way I want it to.

In case this would help someone, the following YT video show exactly what I did. Not my video and not my truck, but same for same only my truck is not being demolished like his.
