What Have You Done To Your 3rd Gen Today?

One of my favorite Upgrades without a doubt. Sounds more crisp , more clear , more ‘umph’ .

Even a couple friends noticed the difference without me mentioning it .

The top are the OEM ones , below are the DS18 tweeters.

Dammit. Would somebody please be the guinea pig and try this out with the JBL system?

 

Not a big problem at the beach in SoCal

 

With less than 500 miles on the odometer , I was beyond excited to go out and explore South Florida Off roading with my first truck ever in hopes of finding some new unreachable fishing spots. We decide the cross the lake in the background thru a side passage thats usually dry but that day it was not. A friend winched us out 2 hours later, but we still got to fish a couple of largemouth and peacock bass while we waited.
Probably could of gotten ourselves out of that pickle if i had a better understanding of 4lo, 4hi, atrac and the other off roading features. Nonetheless, a learning experience , its been 2 years and ive kept it dry since haha .

I spent a little time digging through Crutchfield's offerings. (Although they don't sell the DS18 brand.) Searched for a 2022 DC Taco with a JBL system. Here's what pops up:

Was pretty amazed at the selection - anywhere from about $60 to $499 for some AudioFrogs!

Since ours is not a JBL system, I can't confirm it, but in another thread a TW member mentioned that the JBL systems use 2 ohm speakers. The tweeters on Crutchfield are either 3, 4 or 6 ohm. (The DS18s are 4 ohm.) So other than the OE tweeters, there appear to be no direct replacements IF the JBLs are 2 ohm. All of the tweeters Crutchfield lists are wired. The DS18s are PNP for non-JBL systems, but they do come with a wired adapter, so no big deal.

EDIT: With all of that said, I'd call Crutchfield, tell them what you're up to and see what they say. Free, professional advice.

 

Just got my taco a little over a week ago. Put on some black-out emblems and installed bed lights. Still waiting for the 4x4 one to come. I am also putting on a Bak Revolver tonneau cover tomorrow as the roll up covers seem like they will work best with the compatible bed racks I’ve seen.​

Thanks for all the information. I was just on Crutchfield’s site today, as well. I found the same thing as you did, no 2ohm at all. I’m going to check a few more sites and see what I can find. If not, I’ll end up getting those and seeing how they sound. If not good, as you say, good old Amazon and their easy returns.

 

Good idea, see what you can find. IF the tweeters are indeed 2 ohm, a higher impedance speaker may cause the amp to overheat, but it's hard to say if it's just two of the six speakers though. A better option would be to just call Crutchfield, tell them what you're doing and see what they have to say. They have all of the info at their fingertips. Free, professional advice before doing anything is the best move IMHO. I'd be interested in their take. I've updated my previous post with the same advice. Better safe than sorry.

 

Yeah that tape can be tricky, but the stuff works great! Same exact stuff I've used since the beginning, the original pair are still on my truck with the original tape from October of 2021!

 

Anyone struggling with spiders in the rear bumper?? I've done everything (spray off with water, vacuum really good, knock down the webs EVERYDAY...) I can think of except spraying big spray all over (I'm afraid of messing up the paint/plastics) I've never SEEN the spiders doing it, just their webs. Going on two years of this now....

 

Maybe sprinkle a little DE (diatomaceous earth) in the nooks and crannies. To your truck it's just dust which it can handle. To the spiders it's a death sentence. Plus it's easy to find and cheap (I sprinkle it around my foundation each fall to keep the crawlies out of the basement). The downside is that if it gets wet you would have to sprinkle it again.

 

I second DE. We use it around the house to keep the ants out and it works great.

 

Did the Weather Tech floor mats keep the water contained?
