Pick up a RTT Nest Condor XL on the cheap last week! Tent is brand new and I've built a new rack for the Taco. Torn between my shell or open bed. I dont want the tent so damn tall, but like keeping my gear less dusty.. Here some pics!

Working on getting the tent on and check my height. I'm not fully satisfied with it yet. So its tacked together for now till I drop the tent on today.

I have done the high racks and a low rack. From atleast my experience I find right in the middle of the window is about perfect for my needs and still being able to use the truck as a truck. From what I saw last time you were a pretty clean packer so you dont have to worry about things getting tacked too high. Congrats on the RTT! We have a 3 day weekend coming up. Want to get out and use it?

    Nice score!

As someone who previously had both low and mid rack RTTs, dust is a just part of the experience...

Stuff that costs more than my wife thinks.
I've got the lower bars from KB Voodoo, and I definitely prefer not having the tent be a giant sail any more than it already is on the bed. Having said that, when I pack out more than just me and the wife, the pack gets really tight, hence why I'm working on the trailer build to take the tent off the truck.

having said that, the Voodoo rails are easily removable to get to the bed without the tent, so they'll likely stay even without the tent so that I can mount other toys without them sticking too far above the cab.

Yep was talking about that weekend. I am suppose to see my new body mount bushings tonight so hopefully will have the runner back up and ready this evening. Going to try to get out this weekend and next.

Yeah thats where I ran into aswell. The wife and I for a weekend trip is fine. But add one more person or when we did our 10 day trips out of state and in the boonies it got really tight for packing. I would keep the rack aswell after the trailer build. It will come in handy for sure.

The Rubbermaid action Packers do a pretty solid job of keeping dust out of them. Use one of those and also a good ol yellow lid home depot bin for stuff I don't mind if it gets a little dusty

Once you use the tent you'll never want the camper shell back. Start looking for a used Decked system for the bed to get gear out of the dust a little.

I second what everyone else is saying. Even with the roofline (or in your case, roof rack) is the way to go. It makes setup a lot easier as well as keeping that COG lower. I used to have a 95 lb 2 person rtt on mine that was maybe 6” above the bed, and it was perfection. Easily my favorite setup on that truck, built the bars myself.
