    Good evening all,

My 96 Tacoma with the distributor type 3rz is acting up. It had been parked for about a week give or take. I changed the oil and then went to start it. It cranks and cranks and cranks, and maybe gives me a sputter, would run once with the pedal to the metal and then instantly died when released. I've just about run through the battery now.

It has all new vacuum hoses, new correct plugs, cleaned IAC, MAF sensor, throttle body. I am completely stumped. It ran fine and started on one or two cranks before it was parked. Any thoughts would be appreciated!

    Charge the battery first!

Just when did you clean all these parts and install the new plugs? before it sat not being used for a week?

It sure sounds like you might have knocked something loose when changing the oil.

Have enough Gas not like some was borrowed from the tank.

    Thanks for the reply,

All the parts were done around 5k ago, battery is only about 6 months old as well.

Did get it to go eventually, charged it up and cranked it with the gas to the floor. It ran rough for a good 30 seconds. Idle did clear up and it ran and drove like normal. Any ideas as to what could be up with that?

It sure sounds like your plugs were fouled after they burned clean you were good to go.

It could be the spark plug tubes leaking oil when the engine sits long periods

Check for cracks or loose clamps on the intake tube

The coil inside the distributor are known for being an issue. Yes you can ohm it out but in the end most people just replace it.
