I only drove one once on a windy interstate. It felt like I was driving a cardboard box getting pulled all over the road.
White knuckling it down the interstate isn't for me. :D

Not currently, but I've had 4 in the past and I'd not rule out another at some point. They are fun toys to own, but not very useful if you need a serious vehicle. All of mine were bought well used and cheap. They were driven locally and for short trips. They are pretty agile off road, but terrible on the road. Fuel mileage on all of mine were worse than a full-size truck. I understand they have gotten some better.

Their best feature is being able to remove the top and doors when driving in good weather. I took the doors and back window off of mine for 6 months at a time when I owned them. I usually left the top up. I got plenty of wind driving with the doors off and could still be in the shade most of the time. And if I got caught in rain had at least some protection.

They are easy to sell when you get tired of playing with them and you'll get most, if not all of your money back. When I owned mine and needed money for something else, they had a for sale sign on them. Used the money to replace my roof once and for other expenses. There will always be another for sale later.

    Own both.

DD a F450 bucket truck that gets garaged at home.

Jeep and Taco get driven on the weekends. Personally….. I prefer the Jeep.

Once upon a time, at a High School that no longer exists, I owned and summarily beat the piss out of, a 1976 CJ5. Equipped with an AMC 304 V8, 3-speed manual, and most of a rag top and doors. That little Jeep was tough as nails.
Currently, I’m driving a brand spanking new 2024 Willy’s 4xe as a rental for work. Had it about a week, and thankfully I get to give it back soon. It’s a hybrid, and it gets worse mileage than my ‘22 TRD-OR currently does. Although it rides and handles better that old CJ5, it just feels cheap to me. I’m expecting things to start rattling at any moment. The driving experience is as unimpressive as the mileage. With a price tag North of $60k, I’d not waste my time looking further.

    2020 JLUnlimited. 2.0l turbo 8speed auto. 65,### miles.

Front end wobbly and transmission is lacking shift or driving modes. [I don’t consider the + - of gear limiting a reasonable solution either] Forget ever taking it on a road trip of any length.

Looking back I shouldn’t have bought it but my wife talked me into it.

The auto stop/start feature is super annoying, at least with ford’s version if you had the defrost on or AC full it wouldn’t cut the engine…:argue:

All and all I would rank it 6.3/10

I have grown too accustomed to comfort to own a Jeep.

My wife has a ‘19 Sahara hardtop w the 2.0T. I think Jeep succeeded w this generation. They’re everywhere, and Jeep pretty much nailed it for a wider audience. That said, I rarely even borrow it to run short errands.

Structurally it feels like they passively assembled it in Toledo, it steers & straight-lines like a 24’ Sea Ray in moderate gulf chop, and it has no dead pedal. But you expect all that, so in a Jeep it’s not a big deal. Should note that Jeep’s Alpine embarrasses Toyota’s JBL, and unlike Tacoma, its b/up camera is HD perfect. I’m jealous over specifically those two items every time I drive it. And that’s about it.

The 2.0T eTorque mild hybrid is an “advanced” design that definitely feels torquier than Tacoma but even so you wouldn’t take that 4cyl over a Toyota 3.5, unless you really need a few extra mpgs. Lift the hood after a drive and the heat from that Honeywell will literally singe your eyebrows. Doesn’t inspire long-term confidence.

Hell no. They are only good for one thing. "Off Roading". They suck on road, they suck at carrying cargo, they suck in the reliability department, and they suck on the highway and gas station...

    They just plain suck!

It rides much better than my stock 23 TRD pro.
The stock 3.6L was about as whimpy as the taco's 3.5L.
All it took was a big ass check and next thing you know it had a AEV conversion 6.4 hemi crate motor installed.

2014 Rubicon manual transmission and hardtop. OME lift with 33 toyo's and it was one of the best off road vehicles I've ever owned. Road manners a little spartan, but no issues. Reason I sold it was just the lack of cargo space. Was not worth it to me to tow it to trail head with the diesel and a trailer, so I sold it and purchased the Tacoma. Do not regret it.

I used to have an 83 CJ-7, stock except for things like a Weber carb, MSD ignition, etc. I miss it sometimes, so easy to work on and I love how basic it was. But it was a handful to drive. I also had an 97 XJ, which I'm kicking myself for selling. Both of them had the inline 6, and the XJ was fuel injected. Such a great motor. I'd like to find an old TJ that wasn't rusted to pieces, but it's hard to find one that isn't overpriced. I don't really have an interest in the newer ones.

I had a 98 TJ that I built up and loved to wheel. It was a DD up until I got married. Admittedly it wasn't an ideal DD, loud, bumpy, zero trunk space, 12mpg, but I loved it. I took it to Moab, rolled it, pulled the spark plugs, and got back to wheeling. Ended up having to let it go due to some medical expenses at 175k miles.
I also had a 2020 Gladiator Rubicon with a mild lift and 37s. It was a much better daily driver, and still pretty good a wheeling. I ended up selling it because I didn't want to tear up an expensive vehicle.

I owned an 04 Taco (134k miles) that was taken too soon (RIP) when a guy turned in front of me. Replaced it with the 2019 Tacoma TRDOR. Honestly the '19 is fine, but I miss my Jeeps for the crawling ability and have been looking at trading it for a 15-18 JKU Wrangler. I don't want the 18+ JLU Wrangler due to the auxiliary battery, and corrosion issues plaguing the door/hinges due to dissimilar metals. We also have a 2017 4Runner PRO, which is used for mild wheeling, towing our tear drop and all other daily uses.

I always try to keep two vehicles on hand. I own a 2020 Tacoma OR with about every technology package available. Also have a 2022 Wrangler JL 2Dr Willys that I purchased while waiting for my Tacoma’s frame replacement. The Willys is much less sophisticated sporting manual seats, climate controls, lights, locks, mirrors and windows. I enjoy driving them both equally because they are so different from each other. I daily drive the Wrangler through the spring & summer and daily drive the Tacoma through the fall & winter. RenderedImage.jpg
