Carbon fiber hood

Def not aluminum. Stamped steel.

 

I've only had mine for a couple of months but it's doing fine. I drive on a highway everyday so I check the part that latches anytime I get under the hood and it's always solid as a rock. The hood seems to do fine at high speeds. I don't even consider latches anymore, I was on the fence before I installed it. I was told its more of a "cover your ass" for Seibon in case some freak accident were to happen.

 

I’ve run carbon hoods/trunks on a few vehicles. Granted they were garage kept but did sit outside while at work, etc. as long as you have a quality brand it’s going to look fine.

With how many hoods I’ve seen fail I’d use hood pins. You can get really cool looking flush mount ones. Don’t have to use 90’s chrome pins anymore.

 

Any tips on how to remove the 2 spray nozzles from the OEM hood?

 

Here is mine, painted to look like a TRD Pro… no hood pins, latch is rock solid. Been really happy with it.

 

On the stock hood, the latch hoop is welded to the hood structure. On a composite hood, the latch hoop is wrapped with fiberglass plies and bonded with epoxy. That's a potentially unreliable attachment method and can fail without warning. That's why they stipulate hood pins as a backup.

Resurrecting an old thread

 

Figured I’d post this to help ease some people’s minds on the hood without pins.

I got into a wreck a few weeks ago when some lady blew through a red light.. The Seibon CF hood took on some damage from the hit and the latch that’s built into the hood got bent a little sideways but it’s still solid as a rock in there. I was shocked that it bent it but it still doesn’t wiggle or anything at all.
