This is timely. Just started looking at the Scorpion EXO-R1 which has that air bladder feature. Seems like a great helmet from what I'd seen. I'm also coming from an AGV, carbon Sportmodular. 3rd season and it's getting a little loose. Otherwise a great lid. Would you say the general shape felt similar? Looks to me like the R1 doesn't have that tool less lens change feature. based on watching you try to work with it, Ima call that a win.

@kcuv I love that scrambler, but if you plan to pile on miles, the maintenance costs on the desmo service alone may make it worth reconsidering. Not that familiar with the KTM mill, but it can't cost more to maintain.

Givi makes good shit. I've got some screens and some luggage. All do exactly as they should.

DESMO wasn’t too bad. I think it was $6-700 @10k miles. Not ideal, but not insane. It’s really the seating position, wind protection, power, all the other factors that make it stink on the highway. You can do it, I have done many trips, it’s not always enjoyable tho haha.

Second ride with it this morning and I'm still happy. I got an XL but am kind of wondering if a L would have fit, instead. Only thing I'm not thrilled about with it, aside from the visor change mechanism, is the amount of shell sizes. XL, 2X, and 3X are all the same size and it's about an inch wider around than my AGV AX9 that it's replacing. I might run down to the motorcycle shop tomorrow and try on a different Scorpion in a L and see how that goes. Might be worth the hassle of returning to go down a shell size. Also hoping to pop the cardo unit on tonight and see how the speaker pockets do and how easy all of the padding is to remove.

Current gen of wr450 is 16+ (reverse flow - intake in front exhaust in the back - 4 valve reverse slant motor). I believe the kick starter was removed in 2018 and I THINK if memory serves me correctly, a radiator fan became standard on the 2017+ models

Generation prior was 2012-2015, this was using the ole reliable 5 valve standard flow forward slant motor that was slightly changed to become fuel injected in the YZ250F frame. The 426/450 5v motor has been around since 2000 and has gone through a few minor revisions but nothing crazy. For this gen they simply added a throttle body and the few sensors needed to run the fuel injection.

I have a 2014 WR450 that's plated and LOVE the bike. All the power i need and has been super reliable (zero valve adjustments needed in over 150hrs on the bike). Other than chain, sprockets, tires, oil changes its needed nothing. Neat thing about at least the 2012-2015 (and i think the 16+'s can do this as well - but dont quote me on this) is the ability to run WITHOUT A BATTERY. Yes, fuel injection without a battery. They put a big capacitator in the electrical system to store enough change and smooth out electrical pulses and designed the efi to be able to run the bike with a dead or no battery at all. KTM's owners cry with a dead battery.

thats awesome - I would presume they can do that until the kickstarter was removed? cool stuff. I bought a new battery as precautionary and never opened it because I thought well - run it til its dead because I can kick it and get home to change it.

You are correct. The 450 is bullet proof and has some grunt for sure. The battery thing is neat. I had an older Vespa and it did that as well. I change my batteries in the bike yearly it seems….they don’t seem to last.

I've had my Husky's battery dead enough to not restart the bike but has been able to run the bike just fine? :notsure:

Finally got a chance to try the carrier out. I bought this months ago  My buddy is selling his bike, so I'm meeting the buyer tomorrow. Buyer didn't want the Black Widow exhaust, so I swapped the stock over and took the BW :D

You got lucky, if its dead enough the system wont be able to be bumpstarted and charge the battery / efi system. Been on a few rides with KTM riders and weak batteries that have to get left behind

    So much want.

    https://youtu.be/Q46A6RqYzm8

I don't want a black bike, but I do like the idea of the super ten. I hate chain maintenance, so if I get another bike it'll be shaft driven. All the mods on that bike, and it's sub $10K with 7100 miles.

There's also a dealership in AZ that is marking new Super Teneres down. I'm sure after the fees and such it'll still be a lot, but when the price is 2 grand below MSRP....

I have several friend now riding those. There are a few FJR owners I know that have a Super Ten as a second bike. I wouldn't object to having one in my garage.

If I want the shaft drive and upright seating with mid controls, there's not a lot of options that aren't super expensive. The Super Ten looks to be about the last simple one there is. The maintenance doesn't look fun, though.

As I understand it they're not that bad. Yamaha has been very reliable for me, now on my second FJR1300 and had a FJ1100 years back. Valve checks are the hardest thing but only need done at like 26k mile intervals so not that often for most owners.

IMO Yamaha makes some of the very best bikes out there. I have owned so many over the yearS, and I don’t think there has been one that I didn’t enjoy. From the Seca2, FZ, FJR, Tennere, TW200, countless dirtbikes, R6, R1, and the is goes on.

The t7, wr450 and an MT10 would make an amazing combo of bikes in a stable to own.

I ride a lot of KTMs as that is just where my head is at right now, but my love for the jap bikes, especially Yamahas will always be strong.

My Yamahas are currently 3 quads, 1 RMAX SxS, YZ450, and a TTR125.

I do enjoy the Suzuki and Hondas as well, I have just found that Yamaha may have covered their bases a bit better. I could be wrong; as there are SO many bike out there I have yet to ride.
