At least you have some answers now. That always makes the waiting a little easier, even if it is unnecessary. Helps to also have a loaner to beat up on.

The timing chain just broke ? Huh. You don’t hear about that happening real often.

They have no explanation for the failure. All I was told is that the valves and pistons destroyed each other when it broke. I bought the truck used with 35k on it. Maybe the previous owner abused it in some way. But me having service records from my ownership time and this extended warranty saved my arse!

Surprised you didn't hear the engine beating itself to death when all this happened.

Is Toyota shipping a complete engine? I ask only because I was watching some videos by The Car Care Nut on Youtube. In one he was doing a rebuild on a Prius engine. It had a cracked block and he mentioned that Toyota does not sell long blocks (which I know is not a complete engine), but only short blocks.

Those prius engines are so reliable, its probably not cost effective for toyota to supply complete replacement engines.

He didn't specify if he was talking about just the Prius or Toyota in general. In that case he was able to reuse the head, but not the intake manifold. I think it started out as a head gasket problem with antifreeze getting into the oil.

It's a pretty interesting channel on You Tube. He was a Toyota master mechanic and last year opened his own shop.

I just came across a 2GR replacement in 2008 Highlander. . I haven't watched it yet, but he talks about a little oil tube that let go.

Take a Valium and relax. I said that I didn't know if it applied to the Tacoma.

Yesterday Friday September 29th they called with my truck ready. 2 months and 14 days. Maybe they will mail me a survey? I didn’t get to drive it much because we had a concert last night but the little I did it seems normal. Fingers crossed that it is fixed right. If I have to go back there I will only go back with an attorney present. This has been one more eye opening experience.

@WRREGL, Glad you finally got your Tacoma back. May it run trouble free!

Title is Clickbait for those willing to offer help. Someone should change the title to “was stranded one morning”.
