8 month old '23 TRD OR with 4232 miles went in for the 1st Toyotacare service today and I asked if they would just do an oil change since it's new and I don't drive much. They did it. They just rang it up as the 2nd service for 10k miles or 1 year free service and told me bring it back in a year or at 10k miles for the next free TOYOTACARE service. I'm pleased with that. I was just expecting them to say they will look things over and rotate the tires today.

In my experience with the free Toyota care oil changes my local dealer is the same way. I did in the past/ and will do my 2023 tacoma oil change at 5K miles like I did with my 4R 5k. They don't care when it's done they just give a shit about how many you get.

TW members tend to complain more than praise (I guess that is human nature). Glad to hear your dealer took care of you. Thanks for posting.

So the problem is, you paid for the first non-oil change service, and now its "skipped" so make sure that it gets used for a tire rotation in the future.

Typically you get 6 services, 3 are oil changes.

Had a positive experience at the dealership recently too. Went in to get a quote for how much it would cost to cut a key for the MESO flip fob. Figured if it was an absurd amount, I'd just cut the ends on the original key to fit. To my pleasant surprise, the lady took it, said she wasn't gonna charge me for it and cut it for me free of charge.

It all comes down to your dealer. I had a decent experience also with my 1st visit, where they replaced my oil. just wish they changed the oil filter also, as they told me my truck was short of its 10k mile service that they weren't required to do so at that point. All in all the rest of my visits went painlessly.

sad to say but there is at least a slight chance the filter was not replaced or is missing altogether, or the housing was over-torqued.

if you haven't already, i would check for an oil leak and check the oil level. trust but verify.

Positive experience is what they want you to think. Makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside. Next thing you know there's money missing off the dresser and your daughter is knocked up - seen it a hundred times.

I have been thrown out of a dealership for disagreeing with them, wasn't even my car. Yet, the dick had my truck pulled and sent me packing. Soon as I got to the end of the driveway.... it stalled. I was in for recall work.
The douches want to charge some poor sorry guy 3k for shocks and a minor sensor. I told the guy to take his keys and run Forrest run!

Wait until you have to change the oil yourself and you find that the techs, if you can call them that, cross threaded the bolts holding on your factory skid sheet metal. Replacing that with the TRD skid plate fixed that part, but those free oil and tire changes were never free. Those services are built in to the purchase price and you're paying for them whether you use them or not, but sometimes it's less expensive in the long run to just do it all yourself.

I am glad you had this type of experience. I went to my dealership for the first “just an oil change, please” at 1k. They were thinking I came for the 5k items, even though I called and said I wanted my first oil change.

I let the service professional know I was not at the 5k or 10k service item; I made the appointment to have an oil change. Everything was good; I was taken care of for just the oil change. I paid for my service (NO CAR WASH). My dealership service treated me right as well.
