Thanks for the intel! I'm new enough to fishing that just landing a stocker or two is a thrill, but knowing me I'll be just as happy striking out somewhere more challenging. I've fished Golden waters before but honestly those guys seem out of me league, somehow I would feel unworthy of landing one. You catch any?

Haven't had much time to fish this year... and haven't hooked anything other than a couple super-pissed-off stingrays near the coast. Now that's a fish that can put up a fight, I'm amazed my lil' trout-fishin' pole is still in one piece.

I do very well with Goldens but I specifically target them and have for 15 years. I also enjoy the occasional stocker. lol

Pretty cool bit of history. We stumbled upon this when cruising around June Lake last month

On Sunday the Redrock-Randsburg Rd was closed -- we were desperately trying to get into the La Paz Mountains to seek the wrath of Hilary (took several work-arounds, but we finally made it).

We were in Lee Vining last Sunday scheduled to stay in Lone Pine Sunday night but that was going to take us directly into the brunt of the storm so we opted to go home to L.A. through Yosemite, Fresno and down 99. It rained the entire way and was quite foggy going over Tioga. Too many assholes not slowing down for the rain and so many of them spun out while we were poking along at 40-50 mph. It wasn't that the rain was that heavy on the periphery of the storm but that it had been steady for so long that there was always enough water on the road to make hydroplaning a real danger. I usually don't mind weather but this one was different and, of course, the power was out when we got home to Culver City.

Sweet. It's mellow except for a few spots. Have fun. Also please adhere to the fishing regs. Which are artificial, single hook, barbless. Crimping the barb on the mini-jig is perfectly fine according to Cali Dept of Fish and Wildlife. When you get up there head to the lower lake about an hour before dark. Fish the outlet. Thank me later. lol

Your welcome. Nothing is going to get repaired. The FS is still "asking the public to refrain from driving on Laurel Lakes Rd". It's not a hard closure though and what you are doing is perfectly legal and I fully support it. Had to get that in before the keyboard warriors show up. lol

Is that a boulder or part of the road out on the left? Great photo.

There was a tall embankment upstream which kept sluffing off, I think that may have been a piece of that. While we were there, a huge section broke away causing a giant dust cloud.

No problem! Glad to contribute to this thread. This year was the first year I explored the sierras a bit and we camped at Oh Ridge Campground. Haven't hit any dirt yet, but we covered a lot of ground on pavement and had a blast fishing and hiking. Beautiful area and I can't wait to get back up there. I think I'm in love

It's quite a magical place. My family has been going there for generations now, I was less than a month old the first time my parent's took me up into the Owen's Valley. I'm now in my 40's and it only seems to get better. Well, except for all the damage yahoos did during the pandemic :jpow:

AYE, YE MAY, BUT IF THEE BE SEEKIN’ THE BOUNTY OF HER DEPTHS, BE WARNED – THERE BE A TERRIBLE MONSTER LURKIN’ WITHIN!!!

    Naturalistslibra25-p326a-kraken.jpg

TWAS A CALM YET FATEFUL DAY WHEN I LAST SET SAIL FROM HER SHORES. MY VESSEL: THE MIGHTY INTEX EXPLORER 300 – SEAWORTHY AS ANY SHIP IN HER CLASS, AND RATED FOR UP TO THREE CADETS, BE THEY AT LEAST FOUR YEARS OF AGE AND LESS THAN ONE-HUNDRED POUNDS IN WEIGHT, AND OF COURSE WITH THE BLESSIN’ AND SUPERVISION OF A RESPONSIBLE ADULT.

    shesamightyvessel.png
    Responsible adult not included

BUT THIS VOYAGE FOUND THE SHIP SHORT-HANDED, AS NOT EVEN ME OWN WIFE CAN TOLERATE MY INSUFFERABLE SEA-CAPTION PERSONA, WHICH INEVITABLY EMERGES WHENEVER I DON MY SEA-CAPTAIN’S HAT, WHICH I PURCHASED IN CONJUNCTION WITH AND AT SLIGHTLY GREATER COST THAN THE VESSEL ITSELF.

    boat3s.jpg
Sorry for re-using an old photo... but same boat, same place, and most-definitely, same hat

DRESED APPROPRIATELY FOR MY COMMAND, I THUS SET OUT ALONE, SEEKING THE LIMITLESS TREASURES OF THE HIGH SIERRA SEAS. ALL SEEMED NORMAL AS THE SHORELINE DISAPPEARED BEYOND THE HORIZON, BUT IN THE BLINK OF AN EYE, A VIOLENT GALE OVERTOOK US!

    MV5BMTgzOTAwNTUyOF5BMl5BanBnXkFtZTcwNjk4Mzc3Mw@@._V1_.jpg

I LEFT THE HELM TO REEF THE SAILS AS ANGRY SEAS BATTERED THE DECKS, AND AT THAT MOMENT, A MONSTROUS CREATURE LEAPT FORTH, SEEKIN’ NO DOUBT TO DRAG ME BENEATH THE WHITE-CAPPED WATERS. HALF SWORDFISH, HALF BEAR, I’D SAY... I’LL NEVER FORGET THE MURDEROUS GAZE IN HER EYE(S) AS I DOVE TO THE SIDE AND DEFLECTED THE LETHAL STINGS OF HER TENTACLES. DEFEATED, SHE SLIPPED BACK INTO THE CHURNIN’ SEAS, BUT TO MY DISMAY HER RAZOR-SHARP RADULA HAD PUNCTURED THE HULL OF MY SHIP!

I DIRECTED ALL HANDS TO BAILING AS I SET COURSE FOR LAND, BUT WE WERE SOON LISTING MOST ALARMINGLY TO PORT. WITH THE SAILS IN TATTER, WE DREW OARS AS THE ARCTIC WATERS POOLED AT OUR THIGHS. ALL SEEMED LOST, AND WE PREPARED TO MEET OUR MAKER, BUT THEN THROUGH THE DEFLATED REMNANTS OF OUR ONCE-MIGHTY VESSEL’S HULL WE FELT THE TICKLE OF SEAWEED AT OUR FEET, FOLLOWED BY THE SOLID PURCHASE OF LAND. WE WERE SAVED!

THUS I SURVIVE TO THIS DAY, THROUGH THE GRACE OF GOD, BUT HEED THEE THE WARNINGS OF MY TALE, LEST YE TOO FIND YOURSELF WITHOUT A SEAWORTHY VESSEL TO COMMAND UPON THE GREAT LAKES OF LAUREL, AND THUS TOO BE FORCED TO ENDURE THE GREATEST SHAME KNOWN TO ANY SEA CAPTAIN: HAVIN’ TO EAT A WHOLE ENTIRE BAG OF DORITOS FOR DINNER RATHER THAN FEASTIN' UPON FRESH FISH!
