Do tell what issues Chevy is having with their 4cyl turbo that has been in their full size trucks for about 4 years now.

I can’t wait for an actual performance drivetrain in a Tacoma. Even if the worst case manifests and this isn’t the most reliable Tacoma motor ever made, anything is better than a minivan shit 6 driving experience.

Turbos for a fact require more maintenance. But if you stay on the oil and keep the filters clean , knowing Toyota it will be fine . Comparing it to Chevy is ridiculous. They operate on a totally different mind set . I won’t go into how I think they are junk . But that’s another story

No money, all went to truck...
they made it bigger so it contrasts with the Stout when it's released. So it will be in 2 very different markets. That's my theory at least....

Eight different trims, two different rear suspension setups hybrid vs non hybrid production costs. The grill already exists for the Pro and Trail Hunter. What's it 26 cents in materials and 70 cents in labor? Charge $1.00 more per truck and make an additional 4 cents on each truck. I'm buying a Frontier, and skipping the 4G.

I was complaining about grills don't know how it got into this thread. The Frontiers all have a variation on the same grill on every trime. Frontier also gets a 9spd auto over the 8spd on the 4th gen. That no one outside of Toyota has driven, it's a new transmission as far as it being used in a Rwd application who knows how it will perform? The 8spd and turbo combo could also experience throttle lag that is reportedly found on the tt Tundra.

I am with you as far as looking bloated but length is same. The guy even said it himself " we wanted to make sure it can fit in the garage, so it is exactly same in length as the last generation in all trim levels " .

Luckily you can still buy 2023 Tacoma, or wait until prices drop and then get it.

The front end is longer than the 5' bed, the short bed trucks look kind of weird. 6' bed looks more proportioned, Toyota should build more of those.

4rd gen almost looks like Tundra, but there is a trick. They are using design that make cars looks bigger, but it really isnt. Just imagine a car of box shape, then image car with curves. The one with the curves will look bigger & beefy but it is a same size.

Like 4runner current gen is boxy look, if they made few curves it would look like Sequoia

Exactly, but looks matter. Just like how they added color to a boring interior and made it more lively. You don't always have to spent big money to make things better (appearances wise).

The new 2.4 liter is a corporate motor used across many platforms in the Toyota portfolio. They are not going to produce an unreliable dud for their biggest platforms. I suspect the 2.4l will have some teething pains like the 3.5 did but Toyota will make sure its reliable. This will probably be around for 8 to 10 years or whenever the 5G comes along.

The increased cylinder pressures that come along with turbo-charged engines can be overcome by overbuilding parts. Also, turbos are not new. All 18 wheelers use turbos now (yes I know its not apples to apples but still).

Toyota is putting a small turbo in the Tacoma not because they want to, but to pass emissions regulation. Small turbos emit less particulates than large NA engines. They are just following the rules so they can sell pickups in the United States.

I can't imagine buying a Frontier when the new Tacoma (465 lbs of torque) is on the horizon. I would have instant buyers remorse.
