I have a 2023 sr5 and I’m really thinking of buying another brand new Barcelona red sr5 or sr. My thought it buy a car cover and store it as a collector item. I have a suspicion these 3rd gens in mint condition will bring money some day .

some day, any near mint vehicle will bring quite a bit.
Will that return pay off the storage, taxes, insurance, and maintenance,, plus inflation? No

but if getting a 5th 3rd gen makes you happy, go for it!

What a waste of money and resources. You’d do better to invest in some renewable energy.

Do you need insurance on a vehicle you’ll never drive? Honestly. Idk it’s just an idea floating in my head to do this

I'd guess not if you don't have a lien holder that says so, but if something happens to it,, you will loose even more.

I saw someone mention this a few years ago, I only with the current generation 4Runner. If you have the money and desire, I say go for it. I saw a 1990's GMC Yukon that had barely been driven before the owner began having health issues and left it in her garage for about 20 years before she passed away. Even I wanted to drive that thing by the time I learned about it.

Me, personally, I'd rather invest that money into a project of my own. Such as a 1967-1979 Ford pickup. Everything is only new for so long. Perhaps the purchase and gamble will pay off in 20 years, or perhaps not. Time will tell, but you also stand zero chance if you decide not to do it.

It’s a 40 year gamble, but the odds are it will gain in value if you store it for that long and its condition doesn’t change in that time. How much is the question.

Exactly . It’s a gamble and I’m asking myself if I’m willing to take it

No question it'll be desirable if it has been mothballed that long and is brand new. But how valuable? Time will tell. Theoretically, 20 years from now the country will be in the midst of switching to EVs so that could play a factor as well. Good or bad? That'll depend how far EV tech comes and the price/availability of gasoline then.

Like some one said earlier, you might be better off investing in something else with more tangible returns. All the ones i see with low miles are from some old dude that never drove it around, lol. Those are usually the best ones to find with so many years on the clock. The old dude did the fine job of regularly starting and running the motor. I think if its stored that long youd need to dry dock it so to speak

I agree all things I’m thinking about. There’s no debate the 3rd gen will go down in styling and bring the last v6 and truck that in my opinion was the most popular and well sold tacoma will bring big money
