Disgorged. I think the iconic sr5 would bring more money.

It needs to be one of the more rare ones like a solar octane if it’s going to be worth anything. Even then, you might get a bit more than you paid 20 years from now, but money will be worth less. Highly doubt after inflation that you’d gain anything at all. Seems like a waste of time and energy to me, and things still deteriorate with age even if not used, so an ultra low mileage 3rd gen 20-30 years from now is not as desirable as it sounds, especially if Toyota has discontinued the genuine parts for it by then which they likely will have for most parts.

Buy Legos UCS sets instead. The return on the discontinued ones are insane.

It’s likely to be a “safe” choice in not losing too much money, but I highly doubt it’s going to be a gold mine. I’d rather enjoy my money now.

Interesting topic. We were discussing this exact topic over in a corvette forum I frequent.
There as a 280XZ that just sold for $200k or so, 27 original miles and original owner. Seemed like a good profit until one of the guys noted if the same money, instead, was invested in a simple S&P index fund the owner would have made hundreds of thousands more than the current profit, without the upkeep and time spent over the years.

I remember people talking about beanie babies this way, but at least those were small enough to fit on a shelf. Can’t imagine giving up the space for that long on a gamble, never mind holding on to it through various life events.

My dad had this idea when the C4 Corvette came out in 1983. It’s sitting in his shop with less than 900 miles on it and it’s worth maybe $15,000.

it’s worth more than that in sentiment to him, so he keeps it. Maybe when it turns 50 someone will find value in it. He laughs that a 83 C10 short wide is worth double his Corvette (of which he’s owned several short wides).
You will never know in the end.

These trucks are so popular and mass produced it would take a really long time to have any significant value even the 1st gen are not worth that much . Imo if you want something to collect I would pick up a Supra or Corolla gr those vehicles I can see having some value down the road . Or even outside the box dodge challenger hellcat . Since the car is Being discontinued.

I guess if you want to make your life’s mission maintaining and protecting a mass produced vehicle, that can be stolen, or lost in an accident (act of god or otherwise); more power to you

I used to collect crap, but this changed my perspective (also, having a wife and child did too)

I can't help think about the anxiety you had before you purchased your truck. The timing chain cover leak, crossover coolant leak, shifting issues and a few others. You almost never purchased due to all the negativity here. Now you want to collect and store one? Lol.... What changed?
