Anything welding

I'm not happy with this at all, WTF...

 

Fair is relative I suppose, its the prep and fitting that make the weld strong all things considered, as long as the installer/welder knows how to get full pen welds, etc.. Also when doing a CMR it is very important to make sure you lift that corner of the truck up and place the new mount where it needs to be, I have seen a bunch of these setup improperly and the front end ended up sagging and the door gap tightens toward the bottom since they didn't preload the new mount by placing it high enough unfortunately.
If you are doing structural things its probably best to let an actual welder do it when it comes to critical things like this where strength is very important, but I still think you should get a welder and learn as well, once you feel comfortable you would be surprised how much of a benefit knowing how to weld is, opens a lot of doors if you are a person that likes to modify things, really cool knowing how to glue metals together..
Here are a couple things for example you do.

I'd vote for tack welding a few spots around the edge of the opening, metal etch any bare metal and then seam sealer afterward, and then body color paint if you want to go that far....

 

I can`t call this one since I never touched a lego if the instructions were good no problem.

Though I am used to working from prints.

Depending on my mood I might just get up and leave.

This was my thought, as well, and I appreciate your response. I'll tack enough filler panels for the shifter boot bracket to sit level, get it all down to clean bare metal, prime, add seam sealer and paint-match with the Silver Sky Metallic 1D6 I already have on hand for where I added the clutch pedal.

I finally found a pic of the stock 6spd trans tunnel and probably shouldn't overthink it too much.

 

I want to link my 3rd gen. I've never built links before. I think I want to use the front leaf mounts as a mounting point for the links.

Rough stuff has a 3 link kit which has everything accept for the DOM, coilovers, and buckets, for $860. Should I take a different route, or is this a good place to start?

I say this because sure, a custom link setup requires welding and fabrication however, it's more fab work than anything. That and using calculators to figure out exact mounting points and link lengths to utilize as much travel as possible.

A ton of people that have done custom link setups and other sort of similar work, aren't welders by trade. Nope.

In fact, many of them aren't and simply picked up welding along the way as a hobby meaning most of them with experience with custom links don't even post here. I've seen some badass link setups with not-the-best welds but as long as it held together, that's all that mattered.

Their work wasn't technical in a welding sense, calling for root passes and capping, etc like you would see mentioned here. Or what machine and difference between rods and uses, etc.

We are on a truck forum, but I bet in this thread there are just as many people with stock trucks than there are custom.

Just curious, why do you want to link the rear? Are you going to SAS the front?

A couple projects this weekend. Shelf frames for my cousin. And....blocks lol

 

I decided a few days ago to stop using my Asus laptop for cutting with my CNC table. Too much metal dust in the air to risk this $1600 laptop. Thursday, I ordered a mini PC, monitor, and mounting arm. Got it setup tonight. Haven't used it yet. Will update tomorrow with specs if all goes well. Great repurpose for my old HF welding table.





Also finished up painting a couple more Grateful Dead 1st album cover tribute items I will offer up at a craft fair in September. I am accumulating signs for two fairs at the end of Sept.

i've tried a few of those mini pc's. everyone pushes for the celeron-based and/or i3/i5 models because they're cheaper. i've had nothing but issues for even something as simple as streaming a youtube video with anything smaller than an i7 with 8gb ram. i blame modern software... though it seems it's mostly the graphics processing, as rendering or outputting decent video takes either a dedicated graphics with a lower power processor, or a better processor that can take on some of the graphics processing.

 

I hear you, but I have no high expectations for this mini. Just wanting it to run the CNC software, which other users have said it does without issue. My Asus is I7. It was sold by Republic of Gamers and is setup pretty well. Too well to keep exposing to metal dust.

Again, just for my CNC work. I just finished the setup. It went smoothly and everything is working, including my CNC controller.

For $250 and taxes, I'm happy with what it does, which is run my CNC controller and most importantly, keep me from taking my Asus out to the garage.

 

Yeah you'll be fine.

I run my old laptop with Fusion, Firecontrol, browse the forums, and stream all at the same time without issue.

Even if not running a dedicated GPU, one does not and would not need an I7 as that's completely overkill. At that point I'd blame the end user for ensuring resources aren't being hogged by bloatware and other programs.

My Lenovo is years old, full of metal dust, and is never shut off only put in stand-by mode as I just shut the display. I wouldn't bother to say one would even need anything more than an I3 (if going Intel).

Almost 9 months of use, I figured I'd flip the slats over but first I needed to knock off some slag so they seat correctly



One of them didn't want to seat, so check out all the gunk I removed just from the area between the two slats



I went ahead and also squared up my gantry tube once more, but also set the preload again on my bearing blocks

She's back to new



Fulfilling 4 orders, but I still noticed the tiniest bit of beveling (extremely minor) which tells me I need to reset my torch cut height in my programming once I figure out the actual height from the work piece



That's for a different day

Have to say, I'm loving the new eyepro my friend surprised me with delivered right to my doorstep; 100 times better than the Milwaukee eyepro I regularly use
