D load should be fine, slightly tougher than c load but not as heavy E. I hardly ever see that load rating tbh.

RT trails are nice! It’s a toss up of the AT 3’s and RT’s trails for me. The 3’s are great in the snow for the winters and RT’s are killer during the summer.

The tire options available for 17” wheels tend to offer more flexibility when it comes to load ranges where as most tire options available for 16” wheels are E rated.

yeah I like both too! But I order some RT trails. It doesn’t snow in my area.

just checked Toyo’s website. The specs for the Toyo Open Country AT in a C Load show that it is a 6 ply tire.

    Load ID

    • SL = Standard Load
    • XL = Extra Load
    • RD = Reinforced
    • C = 6-ply rating
    • D = 8-ply rating
    • E = 10-ply rating
    • F = 12-ply rating

I just went from stock 265/70/16 GY Wrangler SL rated to
    265/75/16 Yoko Geo X-AT'S E rated.

    No noticeable hit to mpg's.
The E's make the truck feel less like a rock skipping across water at 50mph.

Anyone putting a LT tire on a stockish Tacoma that is primarily used as a daily driver is not thinking like an engineer and likely wasting their money and getting substandard performance. With that said, I say, “Send it!”

when I looked last, a few years ago. there were only Es in 16 inch. If they had Cs, I'd consider them as my next tires. I know people hate them, but they are so classic!

I run Goodyear duratracs because they offer them in C range in 265/75/16. They are great tires that lean towards the aggressive side of the AT spectrum, almost a hybrid MT. They are great off-road and one of the best tires on the market in snow/wet conditions. Many commercial fleets run them year around for this reason. They like to be rotated more frequently though and are louder than many of the tamer AT offerings.

I personally think E load tires are overkill for a Tacoma. You take a a hit on acceleration and mpg while also creating more stress on all the suspension components. They also transmit way too much harshness and vibration to the cabin over rough roads and uneven terrain. My e load KO2s were horrendous in that regard.

I’ve never had a problem with durability or puncture resistance when running C load tires. That idea often comes from the misconception that e load = 10 ply while c load = 6ply. That isn’t actually the case with modern tires and is an outdated metric. I used to be a tire tech.

I like my E rated tires simply because SF bay roads suck! The 10 ply really help with less flats.

Imo, unless you have some odd ball application to run a tire with anything much higher than a c range, it's just crazy. Heck thats like what you'd run with heavy trailer tires.

I like C’s because they’rea lot more puncture resistant to nails and such than a SL/XL/P load tire, while only being a little bit heavier and stiffer. Handy for driving around jobsites and stuff where nails are unintentionally everywhere. E’s are the same concept except a lot more stiff and heavy, so I don’t like them. C is a happy medium, though they do hurt mileage some.

I’ve had E load for years on all my Tacoma’s and 4Runners. Never again, it was a overkill for me too. I switched to some C load on my new Tacoma and they have been great.

My buddy had c load general tires on his 2019 tacoma when he had the lift with 33's. That truck rode like a lumber wagon, and just as slow.

All aren’t equal, so some are worse than others. Mine are not bad, a little bit stiffer than stock but not by much. Of course, there is also the factor of air pressure and many don’t get that right.
