I had to put the top bracket on the inside because my big ass hinges are in the way.

There was no problem with that footing drain - ie wasn't plugged. That was just a low point between shop and house and we decided to open the slitted elephant trunk there for a short drain into the pit. The tape is just extra on the joint not worried about it leaking and it's not going anywhere for ingress. Why the big no-no?

    I can see why

some contractors just completely treat run off and footing drains as an afterthought

    Exactly

The clowns who built our place didn’t cap the pipes. No no as well. Big rain raises water table forcing junk up the pipe

But they used Canadian junk on the inside so at least our toilets and trim are up to spec

    Question for the window gurus...

I have been installing low e windows in our house. My wife got some static cling privacy film to put on the windows.

My question is, can I use this? I had someone tell me that the film holds too much heat in the low e window unit and will cause it to crack

    Film in question

I decided it was time to go sun power, especially since we received a 6% rate increase this year from both utilities and one of them already requested higher than that next year. So, we now have new roof bling for the house.

Visually, this is the best installation I can see in my neighborhood. There are no external signs of the wiring - including going down the side of the house from the roof to the meter!

You'll probably be okay. When my house windows were tinted I was told something similar about heat retention and the possibility of glass cracking. I was advised to use ceramic residential tint and not automotive tint. It's been fine for over a year, but the house is for sale. :notsure:

Same principle with tinting sunroofs in cars (heat retention and cracked glass potentially).

I'd definitely like to do solar on my next house.

It could crack and I don't know if the warranty would cover it. I would put the film on the outside or better yet replace that sealed unit with a obscure glass unit.

I did solar 4 years ago and the only regret I have is that I didn't do more panels. Since then I've replaced a gas stove with electric and bought an EV.
