My truck started knocking so I pulled the pan and looked at the rod bearing and they all looked fine

Need to remove the bearing caps and inspect. I'd remove the valve cover and inspect valve springs, etc.

Also get a bore scope/camera into the spark plug holes, to inspect the cylinder/walls/pistons/etc.

Good luck, sorry to hear your motor is knocking.

Basically you need to isolate where the noise is coming from, disable injectors to see if it changes tone among cylinders, make sure its not top end etc.

More advanced would be running an oil pressure gauge and seeing how the sound and pressure leak match up. You'd need a proper gauge.

Most techs and shops simply replace the entire engine now as bearing replacement on Toyotas usually don't work out and can be difficult to source.

Whoa, I see a turbo in there... Maybe you should tell us your other mods... do you have a piggyback ECU, exhaust, what else is going on that is modified?
Are the engine internals modified or stock?
What PSI boost have you been running? etc.

This motor I was only running 7psi my last stock 2rz I ran 25psi with no problem on stock ecu with gm knock sensor and no cat with spark plug fowler mod on second 02 sensor as long as I stay under 15psi the check engine light stays off if I go over the knock sensor throws a code and it's always on 93 octane just to be safe before the turbo I didn't care what gas went in it

X2 sounds like top end from here. Really hard to diagnose this over the internet tho.

Sounds like my 22r when the chain and tensioner went. Also Sounds like my buddies nissan vq40 when the timing set....entire set went out....don't get into nissan stuff the job replacing it has been a nightmare and there's nowhere near the community and technical support we have with the toyota master race

So you need a feeler gauge, but a quick visual check is no large gaps between the cam lobe when its unloaded/up and the bucket shim. So you can check #1 intake, #2 exhaust, #3 I/E and 4 Exhaust right now.

While rotating for next cycle, watch the chain for slack.

Motor has 340 k on it I put the turbo on at 300K as a reward for getting past the 299 mark I've turboed a few 2rz and 3rz and typically when they start making noise I've been able to find it easily I'm starting to think it's a bad wrist pin but I've tugged on the rods pretty well when they've were unbolted and nothing feels sloppy also valve lash isn't anything offensive the chain is tight but the chain tensioner does look like it's on its last click of adjustment but guides are fine cylinder walls don't have any crosshach left they look like a mirror I'm not mad at it for letting go I'm just mad I can't find the problem

Also the longest it had gotten to knock for was in that video as soon as it made the noise I turn my key off push my clutch in and pulled over called my buddy flat towed it back to my house thinking it was just a rod knock and I was going to replace rod bearings so I got some stock Toyota rod bearings they took 3 months to get here for OEM ones once they got here I took the pan off started taking connecting rod bearings apart and none of them looked offensive none of the cams or lifters are wore down there's no broken Springs has good compression still Mains and Rod Burns looked fine timing chain is tight I'm getting ready to do a rebuild on it now so I have another backup motor I mainly use it for Grudge Racing cars that think they're fast it's just a sleeper but man it pisses off a lot of Corvette owners my last motor I got too comfortable with and started running 25 lb and E85 and lifted the head after a lot of abuse

God I wish I had your knowledge in my head. I'm a mechanic, but you are on another level. One day, one day...

I'm a total hack now, flat rate ruined me and I jump to conclusions off my experience. Works to pay the bills but the passion is gone.

I miss the days of learning and applying theory to problems.

I try to break it down on here, but I am very impatient otherwise.

Luckily the independent shop I work for is salary. They praise me on my quality of work, not how fast I am. Even though I'm like the 2nd fastest guy in the shop. I feel for ya.
