Seat height

Is there any reason Toyota won't make the seats any higher in the new Tacoma's.Is there anything you can do yourself? I love the truck but the seat height makes it sit like a car.

Welcome to TW, What he meant to say was if it was built high enough just for you, it would be too high for the next guy.

Maybe you could have some spacers made for between the seat itself and the rails. Using the same grade hardware might work. I don't think I'd put the spacer between the floor and the rails. There could be a safety and integrity issue there. Hell, Might be one for the first suggestion too.

Look into a Mobility type business to see if they make adjusters for the handicapped/little people/and the like.

I bet spacers between the rails and the floor would be better - some high grade steel or something. If you take the seats off the rails, that might be tougher to get back on securely - but I haven't looked at them. But, if you went between the rails and the floor, you might weld the spacer to the floor and simply "relocate" the hole. That sounds pretty strong to me...

i wish they were height adjustable like my 4runner. i find myself, even w/it all the way back, i still hit my legs on the wheel getting in and out. and my wheel is all the way up and out.

 

^I have the same issue. I generally whack my legs on the wheel every time unless I get in and out carefully like a grandpa or something.

 

i had the problem of my keys hitting my knee while driving...it made me realize that the seat height was a little off. easy fix tho with one of those quick disconnects for my keychain.

 

I'm only 5'2" and I think the seat height is perfect.

 

Drill a hole in some rubber, cut them into squares, and place them under the "feet" of the seat(where the seats bolt to the floor). That should give you a boost, and still a comfortable ride. I did that in my old truck. Goodluck!

 

I'm 5'9" and also thought the seat was too low in my 2005. I tried to get used to it, but just couldnt. I finally raised the seat about 1 3/4" and now it is absolutely perfect. You can do it yourself easily if you have a little patience. If you must have the seat higher like i had to, Im sure there are a variety of ways to do it if you get creative.......... here is the way i did it. I got all the materials i needed at home depot.
Since the front seat brackets are angled, you cant just use spacers and longer bolts or else all 4 bolt holes will not line up once raised.
I used a combination of unistrut square washers and 3/8" washers along with 2 high strength longer bolts up front. In the back I used the stock bolts with 3/8" fender washer through a piece of 1 5/8" deep unisrtut as spacer. Then I secured the rear seat brackets to the unistrut using a 3/8" spring nut, bolt and washer on each side. Everything lines up perfectly, took a few hours to do, and now i am even more in love with my truck

 

make some more front brackets and sell them to the LP!!!!

Same here... if there was a reasonable way to lower the seat (or take the steering wheel even higher) I'd do it. I've managed to change my habits now to where I don't hit the wheel as much but to do it I slide/turn on the upholstery which will only wear it out faster.

Time for leather seats!
