    UPDATE:

Called the discovery center and the lady confirmed it is OPEN!! :yay:

She said the upper part of hwy 38 will not reopen and those up bound campgrounds will remain closed but San G should not be closing unless there is another disaster. She also said Clarke's Grade is still open for Big Bear access, though they are unsure of the conditions for that trail. This isn't finished yet! :bananadance::dancingbacon::broccoli:

I’m 100% balls deep in. And….. I’d love to believe the voicemail but that would mean recreation.gov is wrong. So now we need to decide which of the 2 parties is incorrect in their (mis)information

did you read the 2nd post I made? :smack:

Called a different source and they confirmed it is 100% open right now. The recreation.gov website also does not show anything about a closure anymore. Just says you cannot access Big Bear via 38 anymore

Methinks someone jumped the gun on the initial “we’re closed” message. Maybe. Perhaps. Hopefully.

It probably was closed for a few days during the week, with a possibility of being closed this weekend but Caltrans took care of business and got the lower part of the road cleared up

    Truck is down for now.

Need to replace the EGR valve. Going to check the valve switch as well.

I noticed I was getting a small amount of coolant loss over time and couldn't figure out where? No "white smoke" out of the tail pipe? So very likely not a head gasket issue? My CEL was throwing a P0401 code. Come to find out that a bad EGR can cause a very slow coolant loss??? That was new news to me!!!

Now I understand the EGR system better now.

Already checked my EGR modulator and it seems to hold vacuum. I will very likely change that out soon anyways. But for now, going to change my EGR first. Already have the replacement, but FML getting to the EGR pipe bracket located near the firewall in the "middle part of the engine" is a PITA to get to!!! :annoyed::bananadead:

Picture below is the modulator and it was holding vacuum. I let it sit for a minute or two and it never moved.
    IMG_20230827_155930183.jpg

My EGR itself is, more or less, "stuck" until I can unbolt the damn bracket just in back of the engine.
    IMG_20230827_155745582.jpg

Trying to remove it without having to remove the bracket is impossible.

I won't be able to get to it until next Sunday.

So it'll very likely be done next Sunday, but NOT looking forward to it.

Then I gotta replace my lower ball joints and I already have my parts for that as well. I bought some "Pro Forged" and these things look BEAST compared to the OEM ones. They definitely look beefier in construction. I'll know soon enough.
    IMG_20230827_174212420.jpg

I would have had them installed long ago, but shit just keeps coming up???

Going to redo my wiring for my lights too. I already started on that process.

Then my bed bolts @MadTaco461 Mike, will you still be able to help me with that? Not now. Likely doing that beginning of next year.

Either way, with what I want to do, all this doesn't matter. I just have too much going on with my new job and unpacking, which is taking forever.

Might be heading up to big bear before San G. So I’ll probably cruise around and see what’s going on.

The campground was closed for a few days during the storm, but it opened on the 25th.

Clarks is gonna add two hours to any trail runs, hopefully it doesn't get congested. Y'all can have fun with that if it does.

Well... 1.5-2 hours... I've seen how some of you drive... :turtleride:
