Just knocked a hole in my frame at the rear wheel well, after 17 years in NC & 3 seasonally in virginia for winter (and I rinsed it regularly).

its sad because ive never had a real problem working with anything else on the truck

thanks toyota & whoever made the frames.

i suppose god is calling on me to become a welder

    That is all.

    Sorry for the interruption.

Remains to be seen I bought the tires and wheels the rest came along
Don`t just blame Toyota many domestic vehicles with boxed frames as well.

Blame the general public for demanding snow and ice free roads. Arizona seems to not have much rust for some reason.

Just what type of frame maintenance have you done over the years ?

What is your favorite type of rust preventive application?

Its the same as those who change their coolant.......7 years my ass.......

What really hurts......is the trucks look almost showroom new.....from the outside......especially an '04...

there should be a used toyota buyers school.....
.....even when you do everything right.......the demons can still get you....

Its so fortunate the other manufacturers dont have this problem....
.....the other parts beat em to the punch....

Well with all the BS aside.....

The good news in OP's area they should be well familiar with chassis rot....

I would check around frame shops and see what they say....

They do make pre made frame sections for tacos.......'Safety Cap' system....

    All Tacoma - SafeTCap™ Kit Locations - autorust.com

Most other old vehicles are not worth this kind of investment.....
    ,,,,,Toyota trucks are completely different......

    they're like Taylor Swift seats...........................

Don't blame Toyota because your frame rotted out. It's time to blame the real culprits. I'm talking about dumb asses like myself who go out and buy these trucks knowing Toyota has had frame problems with the Tacoma since the 90s and still haven't fixed it. Why should they when they have all of us pretending there isn't a problem. Why should Toyota do something when we can't wait to dump $40000. If we stop buying them, they would then be motivated to address the problem. I live in Ohio, and it is parked in the winter so it will last, I hope.

Before it was in Virginia, it was spotless :,)

and i know its my fault, but it all happened so fast :rain:

went to beach, rinsed it, went to beach again, rinsed it, took it thru winters, rinsed it.

My replacement frame rotter faster than my original. One of the reasons I'm redoing the truck is because I can not justify giving Toyota what they want for what I'm going to get. But that's coming from someone who remembers when things were affordable. And seemed to be more reliable (that might be just me)

This is my only problem, too. Frame is clean and solid.... but the Fluid Film drips near the front of the frame always make me think I've got a basket seal or gasket somewhere.

Too far this guy does it all for frames. Cleans up rust proof paint and woolwax, along with fabrication.

Plenty of cheap frames in California people are cutting them up for scrap. Shipping would be expensive.

Safety caps are an expensive option for those unable to make there own parts or trying to save time.

Ill put up pictures later, but I think $1000 of saftcaps (mid frame & mid rear frame sets) will be sufficient and seem reasonable for like….. until those rust out.

idk will have to spend more time looking at the frame, current hole(s) are smaller or at quarter size, but i know the rust goes far further than that inside

If you decide to fix this your going to need to keep after things or you spend much money to get another 2 or 3 years.

    Does the Truck live inside?

    Good Luck!
