I’ve been lookin at a few trails. I think it would be awesome to go from China dam to Indian Mesa, do a quick hike to the top and check out some ancient ruins then head back out to the 17. I’ve been doing my recons via Apple Maps so idk what road conditions truly are or if it’s even possible…gotta get out there in person to see…

Got the 4runner back on the road over the weekend. Drove it to work today to stretch its legs a bit. Need to tighten down some bolts but feels ok. She always feels better offroad over driving thru town. Next up I need to start picking up parts for the fuel tank swap. Maybe I will do that this winter tho.

It’s very possible to get to Indian Mesa from China Dam I’m just not sure if you can get back to the 17 from there, might be some locked gates.

another option is to go up cow creek to the tussock grave site then loop back

    Loads of times.

People will camp directly at the WCC access trail parking lot here: 34.54578, -111.43362

There is camping all along that road, with a lot of it being located near the parking lot.

AFAIK, unless you know the skills associated with technical canyoneering, that's how you get down to WCC (on the south side of the creek). Edit: I see two more trails down on Gaia, never been on them though.

The hike is short, but very steep. Maybe 15 mins down, 30-45 mins up, depending on your fitness level.

Be wary, this place is definitely popular. I've experienced blasting music until 3 am, SxS's whizzing by constantly (they enjoy driving to the absolute end of every single trail out there, one after another), and people that generally have poor camping etiquette (arriving late at night, seeing me camped, and then trying to squeeze two trucks, with boats, down a trail that's tight for my Tacoma, just to find out that they can't make it to the end (huge surprise, why do you think I was not at the end?), and then hearing them struggle for an hour trying to complete (2) 500 point turns with their trailers, hollering and all that as they do it, just to end up camping 500 ft from me).

My only reprieve are on nights that aren't Th-Sat, or if I push the truck deep on one specific trail, too difficult for many. Only bad thing about that is the fact that there is only one thing to do back there, and no creek access, unless you can rappel on ropes.

Thank you very much for that great feedback.
Doesn’t sound like it would be quiet and relaxing if I were to go this Labor Day weekend.

Hasn’t even got much past conceptual stage, but new leaf pack on the way and the fun has already begun.

@Yacob_D you able to replicate a Zieman sticker for me if I wanted to pay homage to the frame that was?

Took the TT into the woods again for the last 4 nights. Arrived Friday 4pm during a rain shower only to settle on a spot 5 miles deep north of Bellemont right next to the gravel road. Get woken up early by all the sxs racing past 15 foot away from my pillow. take the dog for a walk and head up a severely rutted lane to find a perfect spot, walk back sip some coffee, pack the wife and tt and drag it up in 4low.

Being in the woods brings me peace… and then I have to drive back down i17 amongst all the crazies, only saw one accident, little Mazda rear ended a semi and rolled off the road. I’ve only driven that road 3 return trips but theres always some drama.

Saw a nice grey gen 2 with a big trail bike in the back heading down at the same time YOHB?

Yeah dont go to any normal spots on holiday weekends. You will have to plan on driving far away from the valley to get any kind of peace and quite. Or really get back deep somewhere that trailers cant go. Good luck

This is what I have experienced as well. The more difficult the 'gatekeeper' the better off you are. But with how loud portable speakers are now, and with how loud SxS's are in general, you still need that gatekeeper and some serious distance if you want peace and quiet.

And the sxs will still make appearances at camp. I get a little spoiled up here with how much I am able to get out in the woods and just explore around. And what is a hour drive for me is a 5+ hour drive for others. But we still get those damn sxs everywhere!

i would suggest upgrading also to a 3500lb axle, or be prepared with ability to change broken spindle on trail
