I agree and thought it was a good analysis. I screenshot it and sent it to my son since they are talking about a mini van for the twins.

Now that you have the trouble causing cover off the nut you can usually find a socket that will fit the nut, might have to bang it on there, try both standard and metric.


I have drilled the nut to weaken them and then twisted/chiseled them off that way, you will have to replace the stud too.

Thankfully you aren't out on the side of the road somewhere.

I used to be Craftsman until they made a special 1 year warranty for electronics. I changed to Black & Decker, but the 14.4v were getting long in the tooth. Debated what next, but got a really good Black Friday deal on a Dewalt dual-volt set of tools with 20v batteries. I sold off the sawzall and circular to pay off the set and purchased 1/2 atomic impact in the $99 bare tool sales shortly after. ZERO regrets. Lug nuts come off at torque (I use torque bars). I sometimes have to use a breaker bar to loosen things, or confirm/tighten to torque. The hammer impact is excellent. Worked great for galvanized wood screws on the pergola (4-6” long, 9/16 head). Fence carriage bolts, etc.

 

My mother was short, pudgy, and had bad knees. A big selling point of Hondas in general was the low entry, seat position. Her Accord was a 6cyl, so that was also a requirement for the Odyssey.

I can say that previously, during my younger children days. THE van was the Sienna (looks, features, comfort), The odyssey was reliability, resale, practicality. My wife had a Grand Caravan, then a Town & Country (same vehicle, but a t&c kept you from having to spec out 40 upgrades). Hers only had power adjustable foot pedals (closer or extend away), because everything was already there (infotainment, dual zone a/c, power everything, etc.). BTW, video is a godsend with kids. Ours let you put a DVD or USB file on for the kids wearing headphones, and we could listen to the radio or audio source over the speakers. Loooong trips made bearable.

 

Autozone and other parts places typically sell a “locking nut remover” which is just a tapered nut remover. This may be what you’re looking for.

 

Chrysler is notorious for chrome capping their lug nuts, so the cast is underneath, with an over cap. Typically, the cheapo lug wrench will strip the cap, causing the wrench to slip as the cap slips on the nut underneath. I’ve had to abandon roadside folks because I was unable to make my spinner work on what they had already borked with the factory crappy wrench. Next call needs to be to a tow truck.

Yep Ford does that too, i had to hammer on a socket to get the lugs off. Needless to say i swapped them all to solid lugs.

 

Was that a security lug nut?

 

Capped lugs should be illegal. They’re the epitome of bean counter mentality.

I wouldn’t put it on the wrench, you could have the best wrench from Snap-On or other high end toolmaker but those POS lugs can still fail.
