I run Seafoam every few tanks of gas in all my vehicles. For my classic cars that sit all winter I use Star Tron enzymes to stabilize the fuel. Works in my Taco. Works in my small blocks. Works in my big blocks. Works in my generators. Carb or fuel injected I haven't had any problems.

I can handle 9.99/can every few tanks per vehicle. You should see my Verizon wireless bill. Now there is something I can cut down on.

Welcome to the forum :hattip: congratulations on both the new truck and the proactive maintenance approach!

All fuels have a gov't mandated minimum level of additives, "Top Tier" fuels - mostly any national brand names, have additional levels.

You do not need to add anything extra to the fuel tank (or engine oil), spend your money instead on regular oil and filter changes, this is the best way to insure long engine life.

Also, if you are in a climate that gets snow and ice, rustproofing is an excellent way to protect your investment.

Techron fan here, been using it for years. It was a must with my old 87 BMW as those early Bosch fuel injectors were notorious for carbon fouling. Maybe not needed as much now, but I still run a jar through my motors once or twice a year.

You'll do more for the engine by avoiding ethanol than you will seeking additives. If you look up "Top Tier" fuels you can get an idea of the detergents required to get the label and, if you want, you can just fuel with Top Tier brands. I'd still take ethanol free over any additive package, though. Corn does nothing good for your engine or the environment.

Interesting, I thought ethanol was more a concern for like mowers. But I don't know why it'd be my different for vehicles.

It has no benefit, but there are some risks. It pulls water from the air if let sit, and it doesn't take super long to start doing it, plus it's hard on seals. Top it off with worse fuel economy from it, who would have thought corn had less energy when burnt than gasoline? Ethanol is worse than useless.

Once a year when I go on a long road trip using 2 or 3 tanks of gas a day I will fill up with premium gas or add random brand fuel additive once, I doubt it actually helps but I figure under $10 once a year is fine if it might clean the injectors and valves.

Premium gas isn't any different than other octanes as far as cleaning goes. Not unless you're hitting a station that specifically adds extra to the higher octane fuel.

That’s my dilemma. Only ethanol free gas we have around here is at Circle K which is no longer a top tier gas station. Top tier with ethanol or not a top tier station with no ethanol.

I'd go ethanol free, because not having corn in it is more important than having the detergents for me.

Also, Top Tier is a rating that they have to pay to have the sticker for. It may still meet the Top Tier standards, but they might have just quit paying for the certification.

If you’re a short trip guy, then it may be beneficial once or twice a year as it burns hotter (cleaning) to reduce fouling and helps with suspension of “non-fuel” in your tank. Routine maintenance (visual checks) and regular oil changes are more important though. Honestly, take it out on the highway for 30 minutes and let it get up to temperature… this will do more for a short-trip engine than anything.
