Even as a Ct resident, I still get hammered with the additional fees. $5 Trout stamp (started a few years ago). Doesn't the freshwater license cover that? But no!
In addition to all-waters (salt and fresh),small game, archery, I still pay extra for Muzzleloader private and public,Turkey,Deer with handgun, and a bunch other stuff. Comes out to about 150 bucks by the time I'm done.

Got pricy when I was hunting 2 other states besides ct. :goingcrazy:

Do any of you remember doing something as a kid you thought was funny at the time. But think about it now and release it wasn't.

A couple friends and I were driving around drinking and noticed a wedding party standing outside a church watching the water pool in the street between the building and the parking lot across the street after a heavy rain. I wasn't the driver, but one of the eggers on. We couldn't resist came around with a 3 block head start, hit the water at about 50 and got them all. We thought it was great. 17 and stupid. Don't know why it popped up other than thinking about when my dad and I would go out fishing during the week days on his days off. He never had a Saturday or Sunday off. Those were some great times on the lake with dad. My dad had given up hunting when I was born but he loved to fish. He took us out every chance he got. That was something mom enjoyed also.

Was never a boat owner but for ocean fishing went out on Party Boats (some say head boats). Always got some fish, mostly blues'. Tasted good if smoked properly. Fresh water was always nap time for me...set up the chair, baited the hook and cast out. 5 minutes of fishing  and it was nap time. Found scuba and saw more fish then I ever imagined was below the surface. I may need to get back into fresh water fishing so I at least have something to keep me occupied. Travel was a big part of our life but now that is even getting cost prohibitive with costs for fuel, and additional fees. But alas life goes on :D.

    Enjoy every minute of it.

Yes you need a new hobby. I have two boats a bass boat and a ski boat. With two see you might not get to go out fishing or skiing but your hobby is working on them all the time. But its worth it just to hear the big block chevy ski boat.

:pccoffee: Good Morning Porch Pals & Sue! A little of this, a little of that.... All we got last night was a lot of wind on the outflow boundaries, and dead leaves from the neighbors in the pool. And it did spit on me when I covered the grill. Bah.

 evening boys Hope it was a good day. Got 2 more hummingbird feeders today - got them filled and hung out. Supposed to get heavy rain Tues pm - Thursday and wanted to be sure they had enough food. Plus I love watching them.

Ours just go crazy in the rain! It is the ONLY time they get along at the feeders!

Hummers are almost done here. We had the heavy migration last week and it's been dwindling for several days. We go through twenty pounds of sugar during the spring migration, twenty during summer, and twenty or more for about four weeks as they head south.

We had a bird yesterday that had its tongue sticking out, unable to retract it. It must have gotten some moldy water. Nothing we can do except hope it gets well. I can't believe people love the birds but don't change the water enough and still use red dye.

Before one storm when I lived in Vegas (many moons ago) had a feeder out front and one out back. There were about 8 or 10 birds at both feeders for about an hour before a nasty storm. Have never seen that before or since. There were 4 at the feeder and the other 4 or 6 flitting around waiting on their turn. Was amazing to watch.

I only had a few birds (that I saw) but my feeders needed filling about twice a week. Hoping to see more next year - going to plant some flowers that they like. No red dye here!!! I did buy some nectar today and it said red was natural (always wondered why they say no red, yet the stuff you buy is red). Hope the bird recovers - poor thing.

Red isn't natural. I don't think it will kill hummers but it isn't good for them. I'd dilute it and use it but not buy again. Four cups of hot tap water and two cups of regular old granulated sugar is all you need... mix while hot and cool down, and the feeder is what the bird recognizes, not the color of the water. Keep the mix in the fridge.

We get about twenty during the summer, mostly Black Chin but we've seen Calliope, Broad tail, and Rufus. The Rufus more often during migration. They are feisty little suckers. Saw a couple of strange ones this year. Green on the back like most hummers but with a bright yellow breast. Never seen them before. None like it in any of my bird books. Female Lucifer has a light buff belly but this was bright yellow. During migration we can have over a hundred birds at a time. We keep seven feeders and I think they bring their friends. We fill them at least once a day on the heavy days.

One cup sugar to one quart water

    From Audubon web site
    Materials:

    • 1/4 cup refined white sugar
    • 1 cup boiling water
    • Bowl
    • Spoon

Note: Please do not substitute honey, which can promote dangerous fungal growth, or use red food coloring, which is not necessary and could also prove harmful to birds.

I've only seen Rufus hummers here

We don't see many Hummers, but watching the hawks in the back yard has been fun. They keep the squirrels and rabbits at better levels. I also haven't seen many grackles since they been around. Good night everyone.

Don't know where he got it from.... have always heard 1/4 c sugar to 1 c water; except for cold weather 1/3 c sugar to 1 c water

    found this: https://www.thespruce.com/hummingbird-nectar-recipe-386573

Double the sugar and you'll get more birds...

 or make them sick "a solution that is too sweet will be difficult for the birds to digest," copied from the Spruce article

Noted... We've had identifiable birds return consecutive years. Hard to quantify "too sweet" so will have to do some looking further.
