My 1st gen manual is stuck in fifth. Is there a way to get the truck out of gear without removing the tranny and taking it apart? The shifter bushing is like new. I have rocked the truck back and forth while jiggling the shifter until I’m blue.

    Welcome to the forum!!

driving on hard surface with 4x4 engaged?? Severe torque bind can cause this to happen.

How did this little mishap happen?

Did you have any noise before this happened??

    5th gear is interesting .

You can remove the shifter and move the linkage by hand if it is something minor

My 16 year old son did it. He said no noise or grinding or anything like that was heard. He stopped to make a turn and it was stuck.

Thinking about this I wonder if it is stuck between 2 gears .

Just from lack of experience or just random bad luck.

Is the clutch disengaging when you press in the pedal?

Did you try shifting the transfer case into neutral to make sure there is not load on the transmission? At the very least, that might allow you to push it off the road, if it's not already.
