Yes I did as well. And even on the little BX the loader can put the tail in the air no problem with loaded tires.

There is so much volume in a pontoon, you won't cause it to pressurize with the heat from welding. I've done several. It's not a big deal.

Remains to be seen I bought the tires and wheels the rest came along
My luck is never that good I would have some sort of pressure build up.

Not so worried about over pressurizing but creating a pinhole at the end of the weld from slight pressure. But yes there is a plug at the end.

There's multiple companies that sell DIY kits or you can just piece it together yourself. A quick search of "DIY bumper swingout kit" on google will populate all those kits. I went down the rabbit hole when I was considering adding a swingout. Ended up not doing it. I just throw the spare in the bed lol.

Ah gotcha, did it come with a dual hinge or a spindle?

Is that from warfab? If so just ask them (I have their tie rod sleeves -- cool product) -- I'm sure they provide a spindle wiht guidance on gusseting that mount where you'd weld to onto the side of that bumper for the panel to swing out.

    upload_2023-8-31_5-50-3.png

I made my own (for an FJ40) but you can see the bottom left of the pic is the spindle that gets welded to the main bumper. Then you can see the swing out mounted. That spindle is pretty common -

There are so many different options pick one that will work the best for your use.

When I was researching I found for my use it would be more trouble so the spare was mounted in the right front corner of the bed.

it was picked a long time ago
    Then came in the mail

I sleep in the bed sometimes
On a wooden platform with with drawers foam bag blankets memory foam pillow in a shell with netted windows and a fan

    it is a half swingout
One of if not the only one on the market with the new Rigd latch
More regarding where the latch would go

at this point looking at other designs I wonder if I should’ve gone with a local guy to make one out of bar/flat metal to hold a tire (the purpose of one of the gates)

or leave that gate for a future left side if getting a second base tube and spindle

because the main platform with holes is to be modular and bolt stuff to it. Almost like MOLLE.
Which is fine (added weight) to bolt a bunch of different things
But not really needed for the singular use of mounting a wheel

    to include nguyenworks
    Local
    Makes bumpers and swingouts
Could probably make just swingout(s) for it and weld them on.

pretty much wanted to start with just a tire holder to hold the tire
Figure out the rest later in terms what’s ideal for the rest of it
Ie table, left swingout re: all the different holding options of holding can(s), jack(s), etc
Figured can’t go wrong with at least just one tire mount for now.

    yes. Single spindle.
Hopefully it will stay on the right side leaving room on the left if ever adding a second to make it dual

waiting on some more parts for it
I guess when they come I’ll bring it by a local fabricator see what they recommend

in terms of what to coat, when to coat it in terms of timing regarding actual welding, and what coating method to use (it came bare metal)

Sharing pics from a fun welding project my 16yo and I cranked out over the last 2 weekends. Here is the finished product:
    upload_2023-8-31_6-16-10.png

We had a crazy ice storm back in February in Austin -- a bunch of Trees in our neighborhood had a 1/8" coating of ice covering the limbs --- you'd walk the streets and hear constant cracking of the branches suffering ... and a bunch of them eventually broke.

    upload_2023-8-31_6-5-6.png

With ours we lost our mailbox ... so that presented an opportunity to build another better mailbox. For a frame of reference our house is wrapped in cedar with a pattern as follows ... so we thought we'd link the mailbox to the house with the same cedar layout.
    upload_2023-8-31_6-7-13.png

we started with a 3/16" sheet, scrap angle and flat bar and the assortment of cutting and grinding tools ready to build a new mailbox.
    upload_2023-8-31_6-8-34.png

if you have kids I think you'll agree ... it's awesome to see them enjoying what you enjoy -- getting some good hood time in. Way over-welded but it's a great way to practice.
    upload_2023-8-31_6-9-22.png
    upload_2023-8-31_6-9-52.png

It 100% looks handmade which was a goal ... and I still need to figure out a good locking mechanism for the box / bottom opening ... we're going to 'blue' it to match our front door, seal it and hopefully get it out front this weekend.

Once we're done -- my son is going to create some flyers with pics and a quick story and pass 'em around nearby to see if anyone else wants some homemade boxes.
    upload_2023-8-31_6-13-36.png

And I may hit one of you guys up for a set of numbers -- I think 2605 cutouts from one of your tables with tabs putting them maybe 1/2" offset from the box up closer to the top would look great.

    Nice looking mail box!!

Being your in Texas being sun burned is normal so getting burned from the arc you never notice.

Yeah. That garage was definitely an oven. The sunburn from the arc ... sometimes you learn the hard way. I was hell bent on ensuring we had good face coverage for the grinding, cutting and welding ... but damn if I didn't even think about the bare arms ... lesson learned haha

Things like that were pounded into me working on so many critical job sites.

I saw a prefab fitter just make a few tacks in a tee shirt. Bang off the job no pay for a week first offense !!

No idea but a good guess that was a $1000.00 dollar lesson.

Most often freezing Cold in the winter and hotter then hell in the summer.

Though a few companies have found AC makes more productive employees in the summer.

I was in a cutting mood last night, so I got a jump on some Halloween yard art and 4 hummingbird spinners for a craft sale in late Sept.

Ghoul is 18 gauge and the outer tabs at the bottom fold in opposite direction to provide support when it's stood up. The pointed leg is the spike to go into the ground.

    20230831_091117.jpg

The spinners are 22 gauge, so they are light and easy to shape after painting. The one shown bent already was the proto to see if they'd spin so I bent before painting. You hang them off a fishing swivel. They seem to work best in light wind and get confused when windspeed is over about 10mph.

Yuck, too much dross. Needed a bit more speed (up'd to 175ipm) and air psi. Subsequent ones were much better.

    20230831_091141.jpg

Now I just have to get in a painting mood... hate the painting :annoyed:
