Little Red Turbo Creeper

It's the first turbo blanket I've ever used so I really couldn't give feedback to know if it's better or worse than anything and I put it on during the initial install so I don't have any before or after to compare it with.

It looks cool haha

I half considered putting another one on the compressor side to shield it from the engine temperature. Maybe get a red one for the hot side and blue for the cooler side.

I can say that it seems to have stiffined up from the heat cycles so maybe if I tried to remove it there could be potential issues.

I've been thinking about wrapping the downpipe after I get it coated to help keep some heat out of the engine bay and protect a handful of wires, brake lines, trans dip stick, and AC lines that are all crammed into close proximity.

And because its would look cool with the heat blanket.


I wonder how the red or blue turbo blankets would hold up. I feel like the silicone that gives them the color would help keep the turbo blanket more flexible but they had lower heat ratings which is why I chose the one I did

 

I have had a few different brands. My turbos and blankets have been moved a Lot. It has held up the best by far.

 

I may have learned a few things from the suggestions in the Turbo BS Thread from you guys in there

Went for a drive today

 

From yesterday's drive.
Looks like fire season has started. I noticed the smoke back off in the distance while fishing (not in the lake shown that's all straight salt water, if you know you know)


Here's where we went fishing

One of our dogs went on the paddle board for the first time.

My wife got some great footage of the dog leaping off the board causing her to fall in.
She even recorded it in slow motion, great moments

Our older dog gave us a pretty good scare the other night and it was good to see her having a good time

 

What a great adventure.

Definitely recommend the 4runner vent tube, takes out some of the guess work and makes a better connection between the vent tube and the vent for max airflow

 

New valve cover gasket, half moons, and cam plug for the driver's side

I also cut a couple inches off of the BOV recirculation hose, the fit is definitely better. I still need to do a little fine tuning with the BOV and see if I can make the turbo flutter (that sounds amazing) go away

 

Tested for leaks yet?

 

It's a little hard to tell for certain with all the fresh oil from it leaking prior to the repair. I drove close to 50 miles today and so far it's looking good

 

I should be focusing my attention back to the drivers side exhaust manifold leak but I'm going to slide in a different direction and knock something else off the list first, that can wait until September.

(no it's not Ferrari seats or the equally expensive Scheelman seats)

I love my exhaust guy... but it took a long time to get the arrangement we have now. I call last minute and he remembers the I bring cigarettes and beer and we drink a few while he makes the magic happen. Pro Tip: find the crusty old exhaust guy, he's the real one

In Utah Cigarettes and Beer aren't always welcomed either haha

As much as I need the cat back to be redone in 3inch pipe It's not an exhaust shop but there will be tube benders and welding involved.

 

More PTP stuff showed up today. Hopefully it won't sit around on the parts shelf for too long.

I still need to find some good hood vents and cut some holes

 

What's the reason for vents?

I was a bit discouraged with how fast it got up to 220° going up the canyon the other day while cruising around 50mph. I could only imagine how much hotter it would be if I were pulling a little trailer or something.
