Under bed tire storage alternatives

I'm looking for some guidance, ideas, opinions in utilizing the space under the bed of my taco for alternative uses now that I have a swing out with tire mount.

I'm not sure what kind of weight can be safely supported by the spare tire chain lift? I've honestly never contemplated just how do those things never loosen or lower while a tire is mounted on them until now.

I've had thoughts of getting a thrashed steel wheel for the hub section and welding a rack out from it to support RV type utilities, small water tank, propane mount... crank it up attach quick connects and go.

Whatchya think?

 

It really depends where the truck lives.

Most time till I see the truck the tire lifting parts are long gone.

Very one I ever had was so seized it would have taken lots of time to make it be able to function again. More then likely seized till it was needed.

This location is excellent to install a fuel cell . Which I have done on a few different Trucks to increase range between fuel stops .

 

I could have sworn Ive seen a tire mounted water carrier. From what I remember, it was over priced and not at all convenient.

personally, I would not be looking for a solution until I had a storage problem. Sometimes its great to not have yet another lump of mass that sucks gas and pulls tires deeper into the mud.

 

While I am not fond of swing out tire carriers, I do LOVE the idea of using that space under the bed for things like a water tank/pump like you mentioned, or as a spot for a compressor and air tank.

 

Yes indeed those days when the cab and bed are floating just barely on top of the mud.

I'll be there very soon. 300 Ah battery, DC/DC charger, freezer, refrigerator, propane stove/stainless sink combo, water containers, inverter already on hand so...
Edit: Improv AC system that has yet to be tested although all the parts have been collected and I'm feeling pretty confident anyway.

Thanks, I'm fond of the idea myself, the application of such plan has yet to be seen. The compressor I hope to wedge under the hood for the way too expensive air lockers that are only a dream at this point.

 

My horizontal 5 gallon 20 pound propane tank sits just a shade to close to the rear differential for comfort without modification to the crossing chassis structure that holds the spare up.
The wheels are spinning and the swing out option is being contemplated.
I'm making a serious effort at not doing anything non-reversible so hacking on that cross member is very likely out of the question.
