I tried installing backwards, but I ran into more brake lines on mine. I can't see any easy way of moving these out of the way temporarily.

Yes those lines are held in by plastic mounts. Pry them away from the body of the truck gently and they will break free from their mounts. Most of the time the plastic clips/mounts shatter though, but shouldn't cause any issues.

Edit: Once free from their mounts, you can slide the bolt between those lines.

Do you leave them without their plastic mount afterwards?

They are able to be pushed back into position but don't lock/clip into place. The lines have more attaching points before and after that area so they aren't just loose or dangling. It's only 1 or 2 lines that need to be moved, not all of them.

Unfortunately the clips just break upon removal. I've tried my best and the clip/mount normally breaks.

2 pry bars and vice grips made it pretty simple for me. Put the vice grips around the shaft of the bolt to spin and pull it out. It will move an inch out and then just adjust the vice grips again.

I have done 150-200 Tacoma installs and can usually bend the sheet metal and tap the bolt out. Punches, Crowbars, and even a Special tool to help get the bolt back into place bc of the tight space.

Well, I came across a 3rd gen recently that I had to actually cut the bolt out and put a new one in backwards on the Pass side. There was no way to get that bolt out.

Luckily I do stock these bolts for installs just in case it would ever happen.

So it does happen on a rare occasions that someone would have to cut it out.

Upper Control Arm Bolt Part# 90105-A0095

    Fits the 4runner's too.

My only issue with bending sheet metal and gnawing it all up is the resultant sheet metal cracking that comes with rough road vibrations.

theres quite a few threads on this and the sheet metal starts cracking where people had bent thier fenders

I've never read this, and searching comes up with nothing. I've replaced my UCAs twice and had to slightly bend the well up a little. What cracks is the paint on the metal, which you can paint when you are done and you'll never see it You only bend the metal maybe a half inch up.

What I do is put tape over the sheet metal, use large large channel locks, and bend. You can't see what I've done after.

Was this one different than other 3rd gen Tacoma's or was it the first 3rd gen Tacoma you installed upper control arms on?

Guess what every Toyota dealership does, if they need to replace your UCA's?

I am gonna guess they cut the bolt and install another from the bottom. They probably use some Loctite? Ya ride a motorcycle and your front wheel is held on with a nut and some Loctite. I wouldn't sweat it, I mean your wheels are held on by nuts, no Loctite and only about 90lbs of torque. Am I right or am I right?

I have installed 2 sets of uca's now and my bolt is still in the factory location. First time round about an hour to figure it out second time maybe a half hour. It really isn't all that hard to retain the factory position.

    It was on a 3rd gen that I had to cut one bolt. I only work on 2nd and 3rd gens for Tacomas and then I also work on 4Runners (4th & 5th Gens), GX's (460 & 470's) and Tundra's (2nd and 3rd Gens).

All of the 2nd and 3rd Gen Tacoma's are the same for the most part. It just depends on where the body sits on the frame for that clearance of the UCA bolt.

All the other ones that I have done, I was able to tap the bolt out with some persuasion.

But this one, 100% required cutting on the one side. I even tried to trim the head of the bolt 1st as well. The other side was ok to get out the usual way. I just found it interesting that I finally ran into this.

I stock 4 of those long bolts now just in case I run into it again.

Its really a rare thing though considering all of the previous installs that I have done for Tacoma's.
