I mean, thanks for thinking of us but why not just stick with the old design with smaller pulleys? It just seems weird to me but maybe they know they have a business case and the development wasn't all that expensive for them to do.

How's the knee?

 

Shoot I'd buy a used first gen off someone. But it would need a rebuild most likely which negates the point of even buying it used. I might frequent the supercharger thread when my buddy (who makes pilot money) bolts one on his 4Runner.

I went down to 20 psi for that one. It was a short pass and not too difficult. I did have to go over almost to the edge on the shelf road to let a Jeep past though.

 

Some people were saying the molds for the old version might've been end of life. And they still had the sales to justify the TVS1320 being repurposed onto the 5VZ. With the amount of overlanding influencers I see running these 5VZ trucks it makes sense. $4K is a drop in the bucket to some of those work from home tech/finance bros.

I read that magnuson was between a rock and a hard place. The tooling for the old design was wearing out and had to be replaced anyway. I suspect they took the cheapest/easiest option.

RE the knee. Not sure if you saw the last update. From the MRI, the medial and lateral menisci look like they've had an argument with a cheese grater. The good news is, there is no ligament damage. Still getting quite a bit of swelling and with it, more and more pain as the day progresses. I see an orthopedist on 9/12. We'll go from there.

 

The 1st gen (light gray color) SCs are wearing out and there are no replacement parts available any longer. The 2nd gen (black) ones are still an option for rebuilding

 

Yes they are. But everyone wants $3K for their worn out supercharger on the 1st gen marketplace. Can't remember the last reasonable deal I saw on one because it probably instantly sold.

Threw on a coat of matte clear so interested to see how it comes out

 

It depends on their condition and mileage really. Typical rebuild is only a snout rebuild, new bearings and coupler and fresh oil. A $200 deal. Hell, for those that want it or don't want to do a rebuild, a whole new complete replacement snout is $800 from URD.

Most of those are big words that I know not the meaning of. I'm assuming that means amputation?

I found mine with 30k and it came with the URD 7th for $3k so there are deals out there but they aren't common. And now I'm selling the complete drivetrain for $3500 you win some you lose some.
