Smokey AF, Today we get the edge of the Heat Dome. I’m waiting for Mother Nature to come off the top rope with a metal chair next.

The wildfire season has been crazy up there this year. I hope the heat dome doesn’t hang around too long for you. The one that parked over us lasted almost a month. Mother Nature is on a bender.

Feast your eyes on these POS’s, Gents. I’ve taken Trucks to the dump with better springs than this.

This Truck came off lease. I know for a fact all it ever saw for payload was a set of golf clubs prior to me. :anonymous:

    Good morning everyone :hattip:

Oh man, what a day up here. Started in the mid-40s and now mid-50s. Cloudless skies, low humidity. It’s supposed to get hot and muggy but that’s not now…

Hope you all have a great start to the Labor Day weekend :oldglory:

I have seen so often just a change in driving style cause springs to break.

just driving my Truck Home 150 miles broke both rear springs!

Best one from Corporate was “We manufacture springs according to region”. So I asked ‘em specifically, what region is Winnipeg in? I figured out right quick it was the “I don’t give a shit” region. :frusty:

Wow I have never heard that answer before.

I would love to know how they decide how many springs to build for each region??

I could see a difference if your truck never was south of the Arctic circle.

I definitely had to subdue laughter but really it was quite sad. Discussing metallurgical spring property’s isn’t my idea of “Good Phone”.

More likely a response from the computer screen.

So often tech support has no or very little experience in the field they support.

I was mean I would ask very complicated questions looking at the same playbook.

Gentlemen, I humbly request your opinions on the matter of the aforementioned Jeep wheel bolt(s).

Skip to the - - - - - below if you don't want to read the semi-irritating details.

My niece dropped it off at the local Jeep dealership yesterday so they could look at it and get her a quote today. While she was there dropping it off, she texted me that they told her "they buy aftermarket one piece lugs", so props to them for actually wanting to fix the problem instead of just bolting the same junk back on.

I asked her to find out specifics - what brand and item number they use. They didn't tell her that info but they did say they're from O'Reilly and they're $12 each, so $60 per wheel, $240 total. Inevitably plus installation, otherwise I wouldn't be posting this question.

I fired up O'Reilly's site and good lord does it suck. Apparently any bolt that doesn't list vehicle compatibility means it's compatible with all vehicles so it lists them all. o_O

For the ones that are the right size, the McGard bolts are all the same crappy 2 piece design that are the problem in the first place. o_Oo_O

And they come in a 50 pack... for $750. o_Oo_Oo_O

So I shifted to Napa. SOOOOO much easier to navigate.

    https://www.napaonline.com/en/p/NOE610632

Page even says "The original lug bolt on certain vehicles has a failure-prone two-piece design that makes rust common and repair difficult. These Dorman OE FIX replacements have a one-piece, carbon steel design to prevent future problems."

$8 each instead of $12 (which when they called her this morning was dropped to $9).

    - - - - -

Therein lies my question to you all, and I know this is nigh on impossible to answer.

What do you think the likelihood is of the other 19 bolts, or even a handful of them, doing the same thing as the offending problem child bolt? Keeping in mind that while I have assorted tools, I am not equipped with things like bolt extractors, torches, and the strength of Thor. Do I buy the 20 bolts from Napa, a breaker bar and go to town trying it myself or cut our losses and have them do it?
