Yeah, this is on the list to keep close by.

Probably gonna let this one run itself into a trail repair since it’s pretty light overall and THEN replace it, but that’s only because it’s not in awful shape and I can likely get some good use out of it before it’s necessary.

dunno if this will make sense but its not the weight of the trailer, its the weight and leverage of the bigger heavier tire on that spindle. ive seen alot of spindles on lightweight axles break over the years with big offroad tires.

    just food for thought.

it definitely does make sense, and I wasn’t undercutting your comment.

I know the axle will be the weakest point of the build as it currently sits and will ultimately be replaced under the heavier/larger load.

GVWR (I think I got the acronym right) on the C-3B is 2K, and I’m waiting for them to get back to me specifically on the axle rating just so I have a better understanding of what I’ve got on my hands.

a larger axle with 5x4.5 is already bookmarked for a later date though. I’m okay with buying some mounting hardware twice to take this axle to its finish.

hell, the axle and frame are about all the $700 I paid for it was worth lol.

no offense taken, just wanted to make clear my comments, i'm sure you know how forums can be sometimes with typed word rather than spoken..

my old scratch built off road trailer ran 35's,,, spindly spindles on light axles were a problem. i think i just got lucky picking up a 3500lb axle to build on, that axle handled great and i never had an issue. i ran 37's on my rig and that same 3500lb spindle wasnt quite up to the task for the spare tire swingout till i put it in double sheer.

backyard engineering at its finest back then.

All I know is if you say one more bad thing about my mother, @KingOfTheNorth is gonna have something to say about it. :duh:

Thanks for the insight. Your posts convinced me to grab a spare spindle to throw into the front box for a pinch sooner rather than later.

Edit to say... wow that first sentence unintentionally made it sound like KOTN shags my mom.
