I have a 2003 3.4l engine. When you open the hood and look at the top of the intake manifold, there is a hard vacuum line with nothing attached. Is there something missing? What is that hard line for?

    Thanks,

    Flash

Nope. You have DBW throttle body.

Crap you are missing something, but it's not that hard line. Just behind the right side of hte hard line there's a barb that goes into the intake manifold. That should be capped off.

Thanks. Are you talking about the barb pointing straight up on the right side of the picture?

    Thanks,

Yessir. That's the one. Put a cap on that. As it is now, you have a tiny vacuum leak.

EDIT: I have DBW so the experts on the pre DBW throttle bodies might have to chime in but I think that is for the vacuum throttle opener. Can't swear to it thought.

Ive been running with that thing uncapped for thousands of miles without any symptoms. Its capped now and I dont see any difference. Any idea what i should have noticed from that unplugged port on my intake manifold? Just curious.

    Thanks,

I bet if you pulled your spark plugs, it might look like you're running lean. Either way, the stock ECU is pretty good at adapting for from the driver seat you wouldn't have noticed any difference. Best case, you saved yourself a future check engine light.

Sure it is. The later first gen Tacomas still have a hard line running to the pedal, but the traditional vacuum serveo thottle body is eliminated with electronics. That's what that electronic box is atached to the thottle body. Also note, there's no vacuum throttle opener.

I believe you may be thinking of ETC (Electronic Throttle Control) in which the pedal itself is electric and eliminates the need for a physical cable. Toyota has done this with thier newer vehicles.
